Rona Langdon had realized Vera didn't dare to hit her in public. The discovery made her immensely smug. She raised her massive, bear-like hand and swung it at Vera.
A murderous glint flashed in Vera's eyes. She was about to act, but another hand, faster than hers, shot out and clamped down on Rona's wrist like a pincer.
Vera turned her head and saw Sheldon Caldwell, a roguish air about him.
She froze, a complicated mix of emotions washing over her. In her past life, she and Sheldon had barely exchanged a word. Though he was her biological brother, he had always been cold and distant. Yet, in this life, he had actually stood up for her!
