Nathaniel Nathan returned the salute. "Scum like him remaining on the police force is a disgrace. You don't owe me an explanation; you owe one to the people."
The police chief burned with shame at his words, so furious he could have killed Chief Lewis with his own hands.
He nodded quickly. "You're right."
He felt today's events were a massive humiliation and didn't want to embarrass himself by staying any longer. After ordering his men to take Chief Lewis and the other officers away, he left immediately.
Once the police were gone, the room fell silent despite the number of people still inside. All eyes, wide with curiosity, were fixed on Nathaniel Nathan. His presence was simply too overwhelming for someone so young. The whole affair was unbelievable.
