As Brooke Mitchell spoke, her tone turned sullen. "He has time to take some young woman shopping, but he doesn't have a moment to call and let us know he's alright. Our son's all grown up, and now he's tired of us. He even snuck back to Veridia!"
Beckett Nathan was a little surprised to hear this, but he didn't dwell on it. After all, Nathaniel had always had a mind of his own, even as a child. His military missions required secrecy, so he couldn't tell his family about them. As a result, he rarely informed them of his travel schedule.
He chuckled. "Well, what do you know. The boy's finally wised up. He actually knows to take a girl shopping now!"
Brooke Mitchell shot him a fierce glare. He quickly added, "It's not a big deal. You've been nagging him to find someone, telling him not to date anyone from Crestfall. You keep saying girls from the countryside are unsophisticated, not poised or graceful enough. He probably got tired of hearing it, and that's why he kept it from you."
