Vera Xavier said, "Oh," then added, "Don't mention it. We're roommates, after all!"
'That call to Nathaniel Nathan was an incredibly wise decision,' she thought. 'If Laura White has connections, then I need them too. Speaking of which, I've never actually enjoyed the perks that come with Nathaniel's influence before.'
Seeing her expression, Shirley Ewing grew anxious. "Did you hear what I just said? Laura White's uncle probably knows the principal, and they might expel you!"
Vera Xavier smiled. "I heard you. But if you knew Laura White had such powerful backing, why did you dare to fight her?"
"She hit me first!" Shirley Ewing said with a pout. "She threw the first punch. If I didn't fight back, wouldn't I be a disgrace to everyone from Hundale?"
Vera Xavier was left speechless, but she found Shirley Ewing's logic rather endearing.
