Sure enough, the rushing Mrs. Yates just so happened to step right on the black gemstone earring!
"AHHH—CRASH—"
As everyone stared wide-eyed, two sounds rang out at once!
One was the shriek of Mrs. Yates as she fell, and the other was the sound of the vase shattering.
Everyone gasped—the three-hundred-million-dollar vase was shattered!
It was common knowledge that whatever price an item sold for, the winner had to pay up. Failure to do so meant facing legal consequences!
But since the item had now been removed without permission and then smashed, the full price would have to be paid!
Granted, the final bidders were Annabelle Linton and her party. Even though the gavel hadn't yet fallen, you could say they had all but bought it. But now, the item they were about to spend three hundred million on was shattered?
Three hundred million. That was three hundred million!
In any case, they were definitely on the hook for the three hundred million.
