'Isn't Mrs. Grant out of favor?'
But seeing them together gave everyone the strange impression that they were a match made in heaven, a seamless and perfect pair.
As all eyes fell on them, Leona Grant casually put his arm around Annabelle and led her over.
The event host immediately found them the quietest spot and personally brought over refreshments, bowing fawningly. "Mr. Grant, Mrs. Grant, the banquet will begin shortly. Please, have a seat and rest for a bit. We hope you'll forgive us for any shortcomings in our hospitality."
Annabelle gave a graceful nod in acknowledgment.
Leona Grant, however, was completely disdainful and ignored the host entirely. He used a fork to place a small piece of cake on a creamy-white saucer and set it in front of Annabelle. "You didn't eat dinner tonight. Have a little something for now."
The host looked slightly awkward, then bowed his head and departed.
