At the door, Patrick Thorne's expression turned cold. He kicked the door, producing a loud BANG. The cursing from the inner room stopped. Amanda Chapman emerged, her eyes red. From inside the house, the old woman yelled, "Aren't you going to sweep the floor yet!"
Gentry Chapman opened his mouth but didn't know what to say. He silently reached for the broom in his sister's hand, but Amanda Chapman defiantly pulled away and began sweeping furiously.
'Her grandparents and father were always quick to hit and scold her, yet they doted on her brother. Even though her grades were better than his and she did the most chores, she was still the least favored. She had often seen her grandparents secretly give her brother snacks, telling him not to tell her.'
Although her brother always saved some for her, Amanda Chapman never took a single bite. She was seething with resentment.
