Sherman Golding pleaded pitifully. He didn't dare go over to save her. He couldn't win a fight against Phoebe Huxley, so it would be useless to try. It was better to just humble himself and beg for mercy.

Felix Thorne barked at Phoebe Huxley.
Phoebe Huxley slapped her one more time before letting go. Mandy York stumbled over to Sherman Golding, her hair a mess. Her face was covered in tears, snot, and blood, making her look like a ghost.
Sherman Golding breathed a sigh of relief now that they had finally let her go. He scrambled to pick up his hoe and carrying pole. Today had been a total loss. He hadn't earned any work points, hadn't managed to plant any beans, and had taken a vicious beating on top of it all!
