Felix Thorne stopped, planting one foot on the ground. He looked at her mockingly. "It's perfectly natural for my wife to keep me in line. I've kept a tab on all the meat you bought on credit. It comes to twenty-eight yuan. Time to settle your bill!"
Phoenix Golding's breath caught in her throat, and she was half-dead with rage. She gritted her teeth. "Didn't you give me that meat? How could it be on credit? Felix Thorne, have you lost your mind?"
"Who are you to me? Why should I give you free meat? I think *you're* the one who's lost her mind. Get the twenty-eight yuan ready within a month, or I'll have Aurelia come to your door to collect!"
Felix Thorne shot her a contemptuous sidelong glance, got back on his bike, and rode away. Phoenix Golding stood behind him, dazed, still trying to make sense of the situation. But up ahead, Felix stopped again and yelled back at her, "If you ever bully my little girl again, I'll break your hands!"
