"Frederick, the factory manager is looking for you! Hurry up!"
A voice shouted from the other end of the line. Tang Xiaonan had just picked up the receiver and called out, "Second Uncle," when Frederick Thorne said hurriedly, "Xiaonan, be a good girl and stick with your youngest uncle and third brother. Have fun, alright? Second Uncle has to go, I'm hanging up."
Frederick Thorne said only that before hanging up. A dial tone buzzed from the receiver. Tang Xiaonan blinked, looking at Jim Thorne with even more sympathy. 'This must be fate!'
Her third brother's hide was as good as gone.
Jim Thorne himself, however, didn't seem to care. He was only upset for a few minutes before he was back to his usual carefree self. He even comforted Tang Xiaonan, "Don't worry. I'm thick-skinned. It won't even hurt!"
"You guys didn't tell your family the truth?" Adrian Hawthorne sensed something was off. 'So they'd snuck out behind everyone's backs?'
