Kelley's uncle, Carter Huxley, roared, "Who the hell are you? You dare come to Xavier Village and throw your weight around? You got a death wish?"
The town official's brother-in-law quickly said, "A misunderstanding, a misunderstanding! It's all his fault. Just teach him a lesson; this has nothing to do with us!"
He was pointing at Zane Coleman. 'He'd long heard that country folk were savage, and now he was seeing it firsthand. He couldn't afford to mess with them.'
"I'm Kelley Xavier's fiancé! We're engaged! Me getting a little intimate with my fiancée is none of your damn business! Mind your own business, you meddling fools!"
Zane Coleman was still acting arrogant, though his voice had weakened. He was, after all, terrified of Grandpa Huxley's pig-slaughtering knife. But he couldn't accept defeat. 'I'll just ruin Kelley Xavier's reputation,' he thought. 'That way, she'll have no choice but to marry me.'
