The once-quiet living room was suddenly disturbed by a noise. Anna Thorne, startled, looked toward the sound, her delicate brows furrowed.
'The bedroom door is closed, but there's a noise coming from inside?'
"Your Highness," Anna Thorne said, her expression a mixture of confusion and uncertainty as she pointed to the closed bedroom door. "It sounds like there's some sort of commotion in your bedroom."
Hearing this, Ashley Bowen jumped back in fright and began to pace anxiously around the room.
'If that door opens and Anna Thorne sees me here, it'll be a complete disaster, won't it?'
She was like an ant on a hot griddle, scurrying around the room. She lifted the bedspread, intending to crawl underneath the bed.
"Your Highness, my apologies. The bedroom window must have been left open. The wind probably blew the door shut. The noise inside... it might be a pet cat. I'll go and check right now." Elaine's face was deathly pale; she had to think fast and come up with a lie.
