'Maybe he was overthinking it. How could someone be locked up in here?'
Just as he tossed the drill on the ground and was about to leave, a shout came from inside.
The voice wasn't very clear, but it sounded like someone was yelling, "Help! Help!"
Adam Sinclair took a step closer and finally heard it clearly. "Help! Is anyone there? Save me! Where is this place?"
'It's Ashley Bowen!'
Adam froze. In that instant, his heart felt like it was being twisted by a knife.
He immediately bent down, picked up the drill, and cast aside all his elegance, frantically smashing it against the lock on the iron door.
"Shay, is that you? Don't worry, I'm coming to save you!" Adam yelled anxiously, straining his voice so she could hear him.
The person inside did indeed hear him and cried out, her voice thick with tears, "Adam, you're here."
In that moment, Adam's heart shattered.
He smashed the lock with even more desperate force, muttering, "Yes, I'm here. I'm late."
