Keith Flores sat on the thin blanket, shaking his head as he looked at Vivian Lee sleeping with a face mask on.
He had only slept on the floor here once before, but he'd already caught her so exhausted that she had fallen dead asleep without even taking off her face mask. He could only imagine how often this must happen.
He peeled off her face mask and threw it away. But instead of returning to the floor, he lay down right beside Vivian Lee.
Smiling to himself, he turned off the lights in the room.
In the middle of the night, a loud RUMBLE of thunder echoed from outside, startling the sound sleeper awake.
Vivian Lee glanced at the window. The curtains were drawn, but the lightning was still ferocious. A brilliant flash streaked across the sky, looking as if it could pierce right through the walls.
And the rolling thunder that followed was deafening.
Just as she shuddered from the clap of thunder, a warm hand suddenly settled on her stomach.
