Finn Norris was so flustered he couldn't get a word out, his face blushing to the tips of his ears.
"Mom, Dad, please, let me explain."
"Mr. Shaw, I'm afraid a few words won't be enough to clear this up, will they? Why don't you start by explaining how you stole my fiancée?" Miles Xavier pressed, steering the conversation back to himself.
"Finn, tell me, are you and Joan really not married? Have you been living with another man's fiancée this whole time?" his mother demanded, grabbing Finn Norris's arm and shaking it frantically.
Finn Norris slowly lowered his head.
"Well, say something! The marriage certificate? Is it upstairs? Where? I'll go get it!" his mother cried, making a move to head upstairs.
Joan Shaw grabbed her arm and dropped to her knees. "Mom, it's my fault. I'm the one who kept putting off registering the marriage with Finn... I... I'm sorry to you both. I'm sorry to all the ancestors of the Norris family."
