She quickly pulled out her phone and called Howard.
Howard was just on his way back from Old Man Goodman's place, his car speeding down the highway.
'Pick up, pick up!'
She chanted silently, so anxious that beads of sweat trickled down her forehead.
After a moment, the call finally connected, and a rich, magnetic voice came through.
"Hello, who is this?"
"It's me, Nate Jennings... I'm about to die! My dad's men are downstairs waiting for me. If they catch me, they'll skin me alive! Save me..."
At this moment, she was pinning all her hopes of escape on this man.
She rushed back into her apartment, grabbed a small bag, and packed in a hurry. She only took cash, cards, her passport, and other essentials, not bothering with a single item of clothing.
Once she was packed, she sat in the living room and waited quietly.
She didn't dare turn on any lights, so she just sat there in the dark, her eyes wide open.
