I couldn't believe I had actually done it; I felt the recoil of the strike in my knuckles a delicious pain that fed a resentment I had suppressed for years.
Max's brutal training hadn't gone to waste, but rage was the true engine, that adrenaline making my fist harder than iron.
Stuart looked at me, wiping a thread of blood from his lip, his features a blur of shock and brokenness: "Are you striking your own father?"
He didn't dare retaliate, not because of me, but because Robert stood behind him like the shadow of death, his hand gripping his piece, his eyes tracking Stuart's every twitch.
I spoke in a coldness that made the office walls feel like they were vibrating: "My father? You remembered you were my father just now?"
