Chapter 220 - chapter-220 Dr. Merrick finally shows up!

In the afternoon.

Hawk drove Gwen to the Stacy Apartment to pick up some things Helen had prepared for them to take back when they visited their grandfather in Georgia tomorrow.

Originally, Helen had planned for George to stay home and look after the two little ones, while she went back to Waterfall Town with Hawk and Gwen.

But...

There was a case.

And it seemed to be a big one.

The 'seemed to be' was because George hadn't said anything; Helen's inference was based on how busy George had been, barely coming home these past few days.

Although even if George was busy with a case, she could still take the two little ones to Waterfall Town.

But Helen was worried.

If something really happened to George, she would only find out when she opened the door to see people in police uniforms and white gloves.

But if something did happen, being in New York City would allow her to know faster than if she were in Waterfall Town, and she could also rush to her husband's side immediately.

So, Helen said she wouldn't go back for now.

She would wait until George finished this case and was on vacation, then the two of them would take the little ones back, making it a staggered trip with Hawk and Gwen.

So when the two of them came over tonight, besides freeloading dinner, it was to take the things Helen had prepared for her grandfather.

Soon.

Hawk, whose left arm had instantly recovered to normal after its hundred-day period, executed a stylish parallel park, steadily parking his car behind Helen's family minivan.

Gwen got out of the passenger seat, then looked at Hawk, who had changed out of his outdated and rather specific denim outfit into the black casual suit she had bought him a while ago, and said cheerfully, "Hawk, really, I'm not lying, my mother would definitely praise you happily if she saw you in that denim outfit."

Hawk glanced at Gwen, who was talking while quickly walking a few steps to link her arm through his, a strange smile on her face: "Can you wipe that gloating expression off your face when you say that?"

Gwen reacted, straightened her face, and looked at Hawk.

"Sorry."

"Too late, I already saw it."

Hawk's lips curved upwards.

He wasn't a fool; that previous outfit was something he had bought on a whim when he and Peter passed by a discount store a while ago.

Hawk had only bought it to tease Gwen and had never intended to wear it to meet Gwen's grandfather.

Are you kidding me?

Knowing that Gwen's grandfather used to be a farmer, and now that the farm was gone, if he wore a denim outfit to meet him, what was the difference from stabbing his grandfather in the lung?

He wasn't stupid.

After a while.

Helen opened the door, looked at her daughter and future son-in-law standing at the entrance, and warmly invited them in, then noticed that Hawk's arm was finally not in a sling today, and her smile became even more beautiful.

"Your left arm is better?"

"Mm."

Hawk smiled, glanced at Gwen beside him, and said to Helen, "Thanks to Gwen's care, honestly, I really wanted to be injured for a few more days."

Helen laughed when she heard that, then gave Hawk a roll of her eyes.

"Don't talk nonsense, who would curse themselves to be injured?"

"Mom, he's just like that."

Gwen, who was holding Helen's arm, looked at Hawk and said with a serious expression, "He just wants to be sick for a few more days so I can continue to take care of him."

Helen heard this and patted Gwen's shoulder.

"Hawk is your fiancé, if he's sick, shouldn't you take care of him?"

"Thank you, Mom."

Hawk heard Helen's words and quickly replied before Gwen could react.

He had already proposed to Gwen; although they hadn't registered yet, that was because they weren't old enough, and because they were looking after George, they hadn't gone to Alaska. However, he had already started calling Helen 'Mom' a long time ago.

So Hawk said 'thank you' without any psychological burden.

Of course.

He wouldn't say that when George was around, after all, George hadn't changed his address yet.

But this wasn't because Hawk couldn't say it.

Rather, he, Gwen, and Helen had discussed it, and to prevent George's blood pressure from getting too high, they unanimously agreed not to change his address for now.

Gwen watched as her mother had clearly become Hawk's mother, opened her mouth, then glared at Hawk.

Hawk returned a brilliant smile.

He had originally thought George would be back for dinner tonight, but he hadn't returned.

Indeed.

The case must be quite significant.

Hawk thought to himself as he ate, looking at the absent George, but he didn't dwell on it.

He had the Underworld, after all.

To put it bluntly, even if George died, his soul would go to his Underworld, not Mephisto's Hell.

And to put it bluntly.

If something really happened to George and he died now, going to the Underworld wouldn't be to suffer; Hawk certainly wouldn't dare to send George to experience the Eight Great Underworlds he invented.

Because if he dared to send George to the Underworld for a second, the next second Gwen found out, she would probably freak out and kick him to sleep in the living room.

Therefore!

If George really died and went to the Underworld, it wouldn't be to suffer, but to enjoy; going a day earlier meant starting a retirement life a day sooner.

So Hawk didn't ask what case George was working on, but instead, he and Gwen comforted Helen, who seemed a little worried.

However, Helen's worry was a common type; every time George had to work overtime on a case, Helen would worry.

It wasn't some inexplicable Sixth Sense, simply because Helen loved George very much.

But if she didn't love him, Helen, a young lady from a Georgia farm family, wouldn't have followed George to New York City.

After dinner, Helen took out the things she had originally planned to take back to Waterfall Town.

There weren't many things, only three in total.

A very exquisitely packaged genuine leather belt, which was for her father, Gwen's grandfather, William Fox.

A similarly beautifully packaged scarf, which was for her sister, Gwen's aunt, Liz Fox.

As for the remaining gift, it was for Caroline Fox.

That is, Aunt Liz Fox's daughter.

As for why Aunt Liz Fox's daughter, Caroline, also had the surname Fox, Hawk, who was quietly listening nearby, was not curious.

Because Gwen had told him about it.

Let's put it this way.

If Helen was lucky enough to find true love in George Stacy, then Helen's sister, Gwen's aunt Liz Fox, was unlucky enough to find a scumbag.

Of course, he couldn't really be called a scumbag, he just wasn't in Waterfall Town most of the time, so the relationship inevitably ran into problems.

However, Helen heard that her sister had a new partner, which was the fundamental reason why she had originally planned to go back to Waterfall Town with Hawk and Gwen.

On the way back, after Hawk and Gwen had picked up the gifts and were driving.

Gwen, sitting in the passenger seat, looked at Hawk: "What's wrong?"

Hawk heard this and looked at Gwen.

"What?"

"You have something on your mind."

"You can tell that?"

"I'm the pol—"

"The Chief's daughter."

Hawk skillfully finished Gwen's sentence, then looked at Gwen, who chuckled, and didn't hide anything: "I'm thinking, maybe we should cancel the plane tickets. Helen isn't coming back with us anyway."

Gwen heard this and thought Hawk was scared.

"Scared? Retreating?"

"You forgot, I have the 'disaster constitution' outside of New York City."

"Uh..."

Gwen heard Hawk's words and recalled how, after returning from Texas, Hawk had analyzed his four previous trips outside New York City, each encountering a different unexpected event.

The first time he went to Quantico, he was robbed after leaving the airport.

The second time he went to Quantico in Africa, an accident occurred before takeoff.

The third time he went to London, there was an aerial robbery, but luckily Peter was there.

The fourth time was to Texas, where he encountered the Wind Demon of the genesis four elements during the flight.

Gwen recalled Hawk's own accounts of his experiences, blinked, and looked at Hawk.

"Then how do you plan to get there?"

"Fly there."

Hawk looked at Gwen: "And it's faster than taking a plane. Georgia isn't far; even flying slowly with you, we'll be there in ten minutes."

Gwen raised an eyebrow.

"Alright, but I'm curious, if Mom came with us, and your 'disaster constitution' really kicked in and we encountered an accident, what would you do?"

"What else can I do?"

Hawk smiled and looked at Gwen: "You should know, I've never wanted to hide my identity. It's you and S.H.I.E.L.D. who think it's better to keep my identity a secret."

Gwen said seriously, "Isn't that right? Look, after HYDRA found out, they even secretly started cloning you, and we still haven't found them. If you're exposed, God knows how many evil organizations will target your blood."

Hawk heard this and quickly changed the subject.

"By the way, what did S.H.I.E.L.D. say? Have they still not found Dr. Mallick's hiding place?"

"No."

Gwen shook her head, remembering Sharon's call this morning, and told Hawk about it, then said seriously again: "Hawk, don't sell blood next time."

Hawk nodded repeatedly, looked at Gwen, and gave a firm answer: "I'll listen to you. If you say no selling, then no selling."

At this time, it was crucial to agree quickly, otherwise, only God knew how long Gwen would nag about this matter.

Indeed.

Gwen heard Hawk's unhesitating promise, and her serious pretty face softened slightly.

Just then.

The phone rang.

"It's Sharon."

Gwen looked at the incoming call, subconsciously looked at Hawk, then seemed to think of something.

At this time, Sharon calling, could it be that Dr. Mallick had been found?

Hawk also raised an eyebrow.

The next second.

Gwen, realizing, quickly answered Sharon's call.

"Hello, Sharon!"

"Gwen, is Hawk next to you?"

"Yes, have you found—"

"Yes, Australia, Alice Springs!"
