Chapter 43 - CHAPTER 43

The marriage hall stood frozen in shock, as if time itself had stopped. Just moments ago, it had been filled with laughter, music, and celebration, but now everything had been swallowed by a heavy, suffocating stillness.

The joy on the guests' faces faded, replaced by pale expressions of fear and disbelief. Eyes widened, lips trembled, and no one dared to move. It felt unreal, like a nightmare no one could escape. Somewhere in the crowd, a faint whisper broke through—"Marcus is no more…" The words spread quickly, sinking into every heart present.

Suddenly, an old lady's scream tore through the air. "Marcus is dead!" she cried, her voice shaking with horror. Panic rippled across the hall. "How? Who killed him?" the whispers grew louder, overlapping as people turned to one another, searching for answers that didn't exist. Behind Ivan, a group of guests murmured anxiously, their eyes darting around. Questions filled the space, but no one could explain what had just happened. They had gathered to celebrate love, to witness a union, to bless a new beginning—but instead, they stood there as witnesses to death. The groom lay lifeless on the very day meant to mark his future.

The distant wail of police sirens pierced through the tension, growing louder with each passing second. The sound cut sharply through the air, replacing the music that had stopped mid-beat. Within moments, police vehicles arrived, their presence harsh and unsettling. Officers stepped inside with urgency, their boots striking the floor with firm, echoing steps. Their voices rose, giving orders, taking control, turning the celebration into a crime scene.

Evan's mother stood near Marcus's body, completely still, as if her world had collapsed in an instant. The happiness that once lit her face had vanished, replaced by a hollow, broken expression. Her eyes were fixed on the blood—his blood—spreading across the floor, staining everything it touched. It was too real, too terrifying to accept. She didn't scream. She didn't cry. She simply held him, her trembling hands gripping his lifeless body as if refusing to let him go. Somewhere deep inside, she waited for him to move, to breathe, to open his eyes and say, "Baby, I'm joking." But nothing happened.

In that single moment, she lost everything—her love, her reason to smile, the man for whom she had left her entire life behind. On what was meant to be her wedding day, she lost the person she was supposed to spend forever with. Her body gave in, collapsing beside him. Her hands, stained with his blood, shook as she tried again and again to wake him, whispering his name, begging him to come back. But he was gone. He couldn't hear her anymore—not her cries, not her broken pleas, not anything at all.

Love doesn't always last forever. Sometimes, it vanishes in a single cruel moment, leaving behind nothing but emptiness and a pain that refuses to fade.

And in that cruel ending, all that remains are unanswered questions, broken promises, and a heart that keeps searching for someone who will never return.
