Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Secretary General Wants to Run Away

"A-Xuan, could you help me deal with these documents~?"

"No. President, handle them yourself."

"Come on, help me A-Xuan, you're the best to me, aren't you? I just want to go out and wander around"

Seattle Helix had a splitting headache. She stared blankly at the girl clinging to her arm and acting cute, utterly speechless.

Who would have thought that the current student council president of Central Tracen in America would be… this kind of person?

Long hair dyed in a deep crimson gradient, paired with amber eyes that looked like little flames were dancing inside them. A tall figure and alluring curves—she was the type who would turn heads anywhere she went.

Secretary General.

That was the name of the current student council president of American Central Tracen.

A career record of 21 races with 16 wins—she had even once blown her opponents away by nearly thirty-one lengths. A true, undisputed legend in the American horse-girl world.

Her accolades were too many to count. For anyone who followed the U.S. circuit, her name was unavoidable.

Whenever people mentioned her, they couldn't help but imagine a cold, aloof queen of a champion.

But Seattle Helix wanted to say: absolutely not.

Before she became vice president, she'd heard all about Secretary General's reputation. She'd been nervous for ages about how to get along with a living legend like that.

Then she arrived and—without warning—Secretary General latched onto her like they were already best friends, hugging and sticking close until Helix was completely thrown off.

Where was the icy, untouchable legend she'd been promised?

"A-Xuan, help me~" Secretary General said with a smile.

But Seattle Helix had long since become immune to this kind of offensive. She kept a straight face and said:

"President, this is already the fourth time this week you've dumped your work on me. No matter what you say, I'm not doing it for you this time."

"Eh—But running is obviously way more fun than paperwork!"

"Wake up, President. You're retired. There aren't any races for you to run anymore."

"So what? If there's no race, I can't run? Worst case, I'll run over and watch other people race!"

"…You're just putting pressure on them!"

Seattle Helix pictured the scene. If the competitors knew Secretary General was watching from the stands, their stress levels would instantly hit the ceiling.

"What pressure? That's the president's concern!" Secretary General said, unconcerned.

She actually liked going out to watch races across America.

Especially debut races—she loved watching those new, inexperienced horse-girls step onto the track for the first time.

Seeing them run their first race always made Secretary General feel like she'd returned to the track herself.

Some horse-girls had already left the track, but their hearts were still running on it.

That was Secretary General, exactly.

Seattle Helix knew Secretary General liked watching races, but that didn't mean she could accept having the president's workload dumped on her head.

"President, you have to finish this work yourself."

"Waaah… A-Xuan, can't you bend the rules a little?"

"Bend the rules? I've already done four days' worth of work for you. How is that not bending the rules—"

"It's already been four days. One more day won't make a difference, right?" Secretary General said, playing dumb.

A vein pulsed on Seattle Helix's forehead.

"No means no."

"A-Xuan is so heartless."

Secretary General flopped onto the desk, amber eyes staring at the documents as she complained:

"Handling all this miscellaneous stuff is such a waste of time. I'd rather go watch a debut race—maybe I'll even spot a promising new talent…"

"Then you can go after you finish your work."

"But there are so many documents. I definitely can't handle all of this alone…"

Looking at the stack on her desk—piled up to nearly half her height—Secretary General let out a sigh.

She wasn't good at processing documents, and she didn't like dealing with administrative affairs either.

Honestly, she didn't want this student council president position at all. The people under her had basically pushed her into being the unlucky sap who took the job.

Being president meant staying busy all day with this and that, with no free time of her own.

It was basically prison.

Staring at the mountain of paperwork, Secretary General pulled an utterly miserable face.

Who knew how long she'd be stuck grinding through all this?

No. She had to think of a way to resign from this garbage position.

And this wasn't the first time she'd had that thought.

In fact, every time Seattle Helix tied her down in the student council office to process documents, the thought resurfaced.

Secretary General had originally assumed that once Seattle Helix arrived, she could hand the burden over to her capable junior.

But Seattle Helix refused to take over.

Her reasoning was simple: she believed Secretary General was the best possible person to serve as president. No one could replace her—not even Helix herself.

So for Secretary General, if she wanted to quit, she needed someone even more suitable than her to step in and take the role.

But did someone like that really exist?

Secretary General believed in the next generation surpassing the last.

That was also one of the reasons she often went to watch debut races—she was looking for a seedling with the potential to surpass her. Once that seedling matured, they could take her place, and she could finally live a leisurely life.

"President, don't get distracted," Seattle Helix reminded her when she noticed Secretary General's hands still weren't moving.

"Ah…"

Secretary General remained utterly unmotivated.

"Sigh…"

Seeing the president's lifeless demeanor, Seattle Helix sighed and said, exasperated:

"Fine. President, just get your energy up. I'll help too. Let's hurry and clear these documents. And as for watching the race—if we finish early, we'll go together."

"Yay! A-Xuan, you're so good to me~" Secretary General cheered, clapping happily as soon as she heard Helix would help.

"By the way, President—after we finish, where are we going to watch the race?" Seattle Helix asked.

"Hmm…"

Secretary General thought for a moment, picked up a notebook from her desk, checked her schedule, and said:

"New York."

"New York?"

Seattle Helix considered it. Taking a trip to New York didn't sound bad.

And while she was there, taking a look at the strength level of New York's horse-girls also seemed worthwhile.

"When is the New York debut race being held?" Seattle Helix asked.

"In a few days~" Secretary General said, tapping the date in her notebook.
