The Suffocated Silence
Yukanda was no longer a city; it was a suspended state of grief, trapped between presence and absence. It was as if the very foundations had forgotten how to breathe. The heart of the city had stopped beating long ago, yet its wounds refused to scab over, weeping ash and smoke into the stagnant air. Time moved forward for the rest of the world, but for Yukanda, it was forever anchored to the moment of its annihilation.
Deep cracks spider-webbed across the pavement like jagged scars, as though the earth itself had tried to tear itself apart to escape the suffering inflicted upon its surface. Buildings leaned at impossible, skeletal angles, their blackened walls staring out through shattered windows—hollow eyes that had witnessed the unthinkable and remembered everything.
Akuma walked through this hollow silence. His footsteps were slow, deliberate, and echoed against the broken stone like a drumbeat in a tomb. Each step was a mark of respect for the dead. His clothes were shredded, stained with the dark, copper remnants of past slaughters, yet his posture was as straight as a blade.
Fragments of memory—sharp as glass—shredded his mind:
The roar of fire. The screams of the innocent. A distant, desperate voice calling his name.
Akuma stopped. His jaw tightened until it felt like it would crack. He clenched his fists, forcing the tidal wave of memories back into the dark corners of his soul.
"…This place," he muttered, his voice a low, vibrating growl. "…It hasn't changed at all. Still smells like betrayal."
The Mayor's Last Stand
On the other side of the ruins, where the shadows of fallen towers stretched like long fingers, Max struggled to stay upright. His body was a wreck of broken bones and scorched flesh. One side of his face was a tapestry of third-degree burns, and his uniform was soaked in a mixture of rain and his own blood.
Yet, his eyes—defiant and burning with a dying light—never left the masked leader standing before him.
"You call this justice?" Max spat, his voice cracking with the effort to stay conscious. "You wiped out an entire civilization... for what?"
The masked man stood with an infuriating calmness, his hands clasped behind his back as if he were observing a garden rather than a graveyard. "Justice?" the leader replied, his tone devoid of any malice or empathy. "No. This was simply... necessary."
Max let out a jagged, bitter laugh that turned into a coughing fit. "You erased thousands of lives... just to prove a point?"
"Yes," the leader answered instantly. "Yukanda served its purpose. Now, it serves as a lesson."
"Then I won't let you leave," Max roared, channeling the last of his life force into his stance. "Not while I still draw breath!"
The masked leader sighed, a sound of genuine disappointment. "You have courage, Max. But courage is a poor shield against destiny."
The leader raised a single hand. The air didn't just move—it collapsed. An invisible, crushing pressure slammed into the ground, pulverizing the concrete beneath Max's feet. Then, a burst of pure kinetic force exploded outward. Max was launched like a ragdoll, his body shattering a stone wall upon impact. As the dust settled, the Mayor lay still. The city had claimed its latest victim.
The Earth Splinters: The Awakening
Far beneath the foundations of Yukanda, in the lightless depths where the sun had been forgotten for centuries, something ancient began to throb.
Akuma felt it first. He stopped mid-step, the hair on his arms standing up. The ruined air grew heavy, thick enough to taste. The silence shifted from hollow to expectant.
"…That presence," Akuma murmured. "It doesn't belong to this era. It's too pure... too hungry."
The ground groaned. A tremor—low and rhythmic like a heartbeat—shook the ruins. Buildings that had survived the initial blast now crumbled into dust. Then, the earth tore itself open.
A colossal figure emerged from the depths, a titan formed from hardened earth, blackened stone, and the concentrated despair of the fallen. Its eyes were twin suns of deep, pulsating red. These weren't the eyes of a mindless beast; they were eyes that held a dark, terrible wisdom.
Akuma didn't move. Instead, a slow, predatory smile spread across his face.
"So, you're the one," he said quietly. "The Being shaped by loss. The physical manifestation of Yukanda's grudge."
The creature turned its massive head, its gaze locking onto Akuma. Two existences born from collapse, staring into each other's souls.
"I was wondering when the city would finally answer," Akuma continued, his aura beginning to flare in a violent crimson hue. "Walking through ruins gets boring without a challenge."
The Clash of Legends
The monster charged. Each step shattered the street like glass. Akuma didn't retreat; he ran head-on into the storm.
The first collision was a cataclysm. A shockwave erupted that leveled the remaining walls for three blocks. Every strike Akuma landed carried the weight of his family's fire, his lost love, and fifty years of solitude. The creature countered with claws that could shred steel, its roar shaking the very clouds.
Above the city, the girl behind the barrier watched, her hands trembling so violently she could barely maintain the spell.
"He has awakened," she whispered, her voice failing her. "The one written in the Forbidden Records... if Akuma doesn't stop him, or if Akuma becomes him... the world won't survive the night."
She felt a cold shadow stir behind her—something ancient and calculating. But she couldn't turn away. The battle below was reshaping reality.
Akuma's eyes burned with a light that wasn't human. He met the monster's claw with his bare fist, the air around them distorting from the sheer friction of their power.
"This ends now," Akuma growled, his voice merging with the roar of the wind. "No more running. No more waiting. Let's see whose rage is deeper!"
The city of Yukanda was no longer silent. It was screaming.
Author's Note:
"The ground has split, and a god of ruin has risen. But is the monster the real threat... or is it the man standing in front of it? The clash of legends has only just begun. Who will you side with?"
