Chapter 2 - Small prologue.

"Mallory! Get out here!"

The shout echoed through the clearing as the smoke from the building she had crashed into was swept away by a strong gust of wind. She looked up and saw him–the only other person imbued with the Sentry's energy after he had killed all the others.

Looking at him, she wished she had just stayed on the moon rather than deal with this guy. Honestly, she wished she'd never received these powers at all. If she hadn't, she would've remained blissfully unaware of such a psychopath, continuing her mundane life in a wheelchair like the lonely little girl she used to be.

He was a tall young man with a lean, sculpted physique, sharp features, and bright blond hair swept upward in a windswept style. He had sky-blue eyes and a confident, almost playful expression, even now as he wreaked havoc on the city.

His outfit was a sleek gold-and-blue bodysuit that highlighted his athletic build, with gold covering the chest and legs while darker blue panels framed the shoulders, arms, and sides. A flowing blue cape trailed behind him, adding an almost regal presence to his silhouette.

He wore a gold circlet across his forehead like a crown, along with a glowing circular emblem at his waist—an "S" that stood for "Sentry."

"You psycho! Are you trying to kill everyone here?!" she asked as she pushed herself up, praying to every god that she wouldn't have an involuntary spasm. It happened almost every thirty minutes, and having one now would truly suck balls.

A playful laugh escaped him as his eyes glowed a striking red. "No. Just you."

The beam almost took off her head–or it would have, if she hadn't moved the second she saw the red glow. She knew he was a ruthless prick, but she didn't think he would go straight for the kill so quickly.

"Didn't you say you had a crush on me? Is this how you behave toward your crush?" She did the one thing she knew would piss him off: she blew a raspberry and shot a golden ball of energy straight into his nuts.

"Bwa!" He keeled over from the superpowered hit, clasping his hands over his crotch. "You bitch!"

"Ha! You didn't expect that, did you!?" she cheered and charged, her hands glowing with blinding golden energy. She clasped her palms together and raised them to deliver a sledgehammer-style blow she had seen in Unicorn Horn Z. "Take this!"

Only for it to completely miss. The next second, she felt like she had been hit by a freight train. She doubled over in agony, clutching her stomach where he had struck her with undoubtedly full force.

"You thought you got me with such a measly hit?" he bragged, kicking her square in the chin. She went flying and fell hard on her back, nearly blacking out from the pain.

"Now, there will be only one Sentry! and that is me!" he yelled. He raised his hands, which rapidly became covered in the same blinding golden energy as he prepared to take her powers for himself.

'I am sorry, Mom, Dad. I guess this is it,' she thought, closing her eyes and bracing for the end. But the pain never came, when she opened her eyes, the little psycho was nowhere to be found.

"What the fuck?" she whispered to herself as she watched a green, portal-like rift closing in front of her.

That was the last time she–or anyone, really–saw Ryan Topper.
