Chapter 216 Thor's Complicated Feelings
The next day, Finney woke up in his large bed. His head was slightly aching from drinking too much, but thankfully he had some 'Violet Chicken Rolls', and after eating a few, he felt better.
With the help of a maid, he awkwardly washed up and then went to see Frigga.
"How was the banquet yesterday?"
Frigga looked at Finney, who seemed perfectly normal, and praised, "I heard you single-handedly drank all the warriors of Asgard under the table! That hasn't happened in centuries! The whole palace is talking about you!"
"Uh!"
Finney hadn't expected to become famous in Asgard this way. He awkwardly scratched his head and explained, "I used some tricks; I didn't actually drink them all!"
"That's still impressive!"
Frigga smiled. Seeing Finney's unease, she didn't dwell on it and changed the subject, saying, "In Asgard, the Rainbow Bridge is generally used; star charts are rarely used. So the versions in the palace's inventory are outdated." "
We sent people into space a few days ago to collect the latest and most detailed star charts for you. They should be back in about a week."
"Are these things very precious?"
Finney couldn't help but ask, hearing Frigga's words.
"It's not exactly rare, but it's just that very few people sell it separately," Frigga explained, glancing at Finney. "These things are usually built into the spaceship."
Finney gave a poor smile. If he had money, why would he have Tony build a spaceship? It would be so much simpler to just buy a ready-made one.
Unfortunately, while he was relatively wealthy on Earth, in space, "poverty" wouldn't even be an option; he was practically destitute.
As for exchanging Earth currency, Finney didn't think there would be any places in space that exchanged for US dollars, especially in places even raiders wouldn't bother invading.
As for precious treasures, Finney couldn't think of anything that would be valuable in the universe.
After thanking Frigga again, Finney planned to explore Asgard during this time, and then travel to the other realms via the Rainbow Bridge to confirm his coordinates after Thor and the star map returned.
Frigga, as Odin's wife, was also very busy, so she left after chatting for a while.
However, perhaps sensing Finney's poverty, she specially arranged for some money to be prepared for him after she left.
Two currencies circulate in Asgard: credits that can be used throughout the universe, and Asgardian gold coins that circulate primarily within the continent.
Frigga had prepared the most precious gold coins for Finney; although it was only a small bag, they were extremely valuable.
They were made from Asgardian metals using the special craftsmanship of the dwarves, making them virtually impossible to counterfeit.
These gold coins also dispelled Finney's idea of setting up a stall on the street.
Since he had plenty of time, Finney wasn't in a hurry to buy gifts to take back. Instead, with Frigga's permission, he went to the library in Asgard first.
Asgard wasn't just a technological civilization; they also had a unique magical civilization, and Finney had long been curious about it, which was why he chose to study it first.
Armed with a translator he'd gotten from a maid, Finney arrived at the library.
Although he knew Asgard wouldn't display their treasured magical books, he only wanted to learn about them out of curiosity and didn't intend to study them seriously.
For the rest of the day, Finney spent all his time in the library, even skipping lunch, diligently studying Asgardian magic.
"Good heavens, Asgard has so many interesting places, but you chose the most boring one!"
In the evening, when Sif and her three friends found Finney engrossed in reading in the library, they all wore expressions of disbelief.
"Hmm!?"
Finney raised an eyebrow, closed the book, stretched, and replied, "I think this is quite interesting!"
Volstagg looked at the spellbook in Finney's hand with disgust and said, "I've always felt that apart from Loki, no one else would like these things."
Mentioning Loki, Fandral suddenly remembered something and said to Finney, "By the way, you're the one who beat Loki up like that, right?"
"Well done!"
he said, giving Finney a thumbs up. Hogan and Volstagg beside him nodded in agreement, clearly still not forgiving Loki's betrayal.
Finney didn't continue the conversation about Loki, but looked at the four of them and asked in confusion, "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, right, I almost forgot. Hurry up, the banquet is about to start, you can't be absent as a guest!"
Volstagg's greasy hands reached for Finney.
"Wait!"
Finney quickly dodged, asking in surprise, "A banquet!? Wasn't it yesterday?"
"Such important banquets usually last three days,"
Sif explained, noticing Finney's surprise.
"This..."
Finney hesitated, unsure what to say, and could only smile wryly as he put down his spellbook and followed the others to the banquet.
As soon as he arrived, he noticed there were even more people at the banquet today, and some of them were glaring at him menacingly, looking defiant.
This puzzled Phineas; he had spent the entire day in the library and hadn't gone anywhere else, so he couldn't have offended anyone.
But when the banquet began, he immediately understood why they were looking at him—they were all there to drink with him.
Although he had drunk a lot of people under the table yesterday, it hadn't intimidated the Asgardians; instead, it had fueled their competitive spirit. Even those who had passed out yesterday wanted revenge.
"I was here first!"
"No, I was first! And how much did you drink before you passed out? Don't embarrass yourself today!"
"What? You dare say I'm embarrassing myself? I'll show you what a drinking contest is all about today!"
"Come on!"
However, because there were so many people eager to challenge him, they started drinking amongst themselves, which Phineas found rather amusing.
Seeing this, Finney didn't say much and immediately activated his "Invincible Mode," sweeping through the entire arena. Although it was a bit of a waste of the fine wine, it was their fault for provoking him first.
...
Time flew by, and three days had passed since Finney arrived in Asgard. During these three days, he spent his days studying magic in the library and his evenings attending banquets with the Asgardians, living a rather fulfilling life.
After three days, the banquet finally came to an end, but before he could even catch his breath, Thor returned, looking somewhat disheveled but with a victory.
Thus, Finney was once again invited to the banquet, much to his dismay.
Thor, upon his return, quickly learned of Finney's arrival, changed his clothes, and went straight to the library to find him.
"Why are you here?"
Thor's feelings upon seeing Finney were somewhat complicated.
On one hand, he admired Finney's formidable strength, but he also remembered Finney threatening him with his hammer to "admit defeat," and the unforgettable fried chicken wrap, just like Jane's.
And then there was the fact that he'd beaten Loki half to death, which infuriated him the most. Although he later realized he could understand Finney's feelings, he was still somewhat annoyed.
