Chapter 150 - Withdrawal From School

Chapter 150: Withdrawal from School

[Ding! Host has unlocked the achievement "First Encounter with the Famine Devil," gaining 2 Attribute Points!] (I forgot to include this in the last chapter, so I'm adding it now.)

It seems that after coming to Hell, encountering major characters from the original story grants more than just the usual 1 attribute point. It appears the system determines the reward based on difficulty: encountering the Darkness Devil granted 10 points, no doubt because finding it is incredibly difficult and surviving it is even harder—though for Chiya, with his dual Kamui, it was manageable as long as he didn't get careless. Conversely, while Pochita is a vital character, finding it in the human world isn't particularly difficult, and in its dog form, Pochita is harmless, which is why the system only granted 1 point.

Since he couldn't get any information out of the Famine Devil, Chiya saw no reason to linger. He felt it was time to return to the human world, go back, and get some proper rest for a few days. Since this location was safely outside the Darkness Devil's domain, he wouldn't have to worry about running into it again when he next teleported to this spot in Hell.

"Goodbye, I'm heading back."

Before leaving, Chiya made sure to bid the Famine Devil farewell. After all, he didn't harbor any ill will toward her; the Four Horsemen—humanoid devils of their caliber—didn't hold the same malice toward humanity as other devils, with the possible exception of the still-mysterious Death Devil. At the very least, they didn't treat humans as food or derive pleasure from mass slaughter. They were driven by their own ideals and objectives, willing to ruthlessly kill any human or devil standing in their way, but they weren't motivated by simple cruelty.

"Bye-bye—"

The Famine Devil appeared quite friendly. She tilted her head slightly, uttering the "Bye-bye" in an emotionless tone that was inexplicably cute.

The next moment, Chiya's figure vanished, and he traveled back to the human world via the Kamui dimension. After he disappeared, the Famine Devil remained where she stood, seemingly lost in thought.

When Chiya emerged into the human world, he didn't return to the hotel in Magic City immediately. Instead, he went to Tokyo.

Only Denji, Reze, and Pochita were at home; Kobeni was currently at school.

"Darling~ Welcome back!"

The moment Reze saw Chiya, she beamed at him.

"Darling...?" Chiya froze for a second.

Reze had indeed stopped calling him "Master," but "Darling" felt significantly worse. His bad feeling from last time had proven correct: Reze's habit of teasing him wouldn't change, no matter what titles she chose to use.

"Well, you were the one who told me not to call you 'Master' last time, so I've switched to 'Darling' instead~" Reze laughed.

"Chiya-nii, you're back!" Denji and Pochita emerged from their room.

When Denji heard Reze calling Chiya "Darling," her lips pouted slightly, and she muttered under her breath, "Reze-nee is so cunning..."

Reze smiled and ruffled Denji's hair, tidying up her slightly messy long locks before asking Chiya, "So, the International Transfer should be over by now, right? How did it go?"

"Yes, it's finished," Chiya nodded. "We will be living and working in China for the long term, and I've come back to prepare you all for the move."

"China, as expected. I already know some Mandarin, but Denji will have to study hard once we get there," Reze said, finished fixing Denji's hair.

"Mm-hmm, I'll do my best."

Next Step:

Would you like me to translate Chiya and Reze discussing the details of the move to China, or move to Chiya dealing with the aftermath of his departure from Japan?Chapter 150: Withdrawal from School

Denji nodded.

"Alright, you guys start packing your things. The Magic City Devil Hunter Association has already booked your tickets, so we can depart this afternoon. I'm going to Kobeni's school now to handle her withdrawal procedures."

With that, Chiya departed. He teleported directly to Kobeni's school and went straight to the principal's office.

"Ah, Deputy Captain Otonashi, you've arrived! Please, have a seat!" the principal said respectfully. Due to an information gap, the principal still believed Chiya was the Deputy Captain of Tokyo Public Safety's Special Division 1.

Chiya sat on the sofa, sipping tea while discussing the matter with the principal.

"I understand. So, Deputy Captain Otonashi, you're saying that Student Higashiyama will be withdrawing from school today to study abroad in China, is that correct?" the principal summarized.

"That is correct. Due to a change in my job, I will be working in China for the long term," Chiya said.

"Understood. That won't be a problem at all. It's almost time for class to end, so I'll have Mr. Watanabe notify Student Higashiyama and have her come to the office."

The principal promptly phoned Mr. Watanabe. About ten minutes later, Kobeni Higashiyama arrived at the office, having already said her quick goodbyes to her classmates. Once Kobeni was inside, the principal didn't waste any time and immediately began the withdrawal paperwork.

It wasn't long before everything was finalized. While the school would typically charge a fee of several tens of thousands of yen for withdrawal, the principal waived it entirely—after all, Chiya's status was special, and he wasn't about to risk offending him.

Shortly after, Chiya left the school with Kobeni.

"Chiya-kun, have you already decided where we're going next?" Kobeni asked as they walked home.

"Yes. We'll be living in China from now on. We've already selected the new school—it's Magic City's Qingfeng High School," Chiya replied.

"Oh, I see..."

Kobeni had heard of Magic City, of course, but she knew nothing about schools abroad. In fact, she didn't even know much about the schools in Tokyo, so Qingfeng High School meant nothing to her.

"They say Qingfeng High School is the best in Magic City and ranks among the top in all of China, so the academic environment will be excellent. However, it might be a bit of a struggle for you to learn Mandarin," Chiya noted.

President Jiang had briefed him on Qingfeng High School; if it weren't the best school in the city, it wouldn't have been selected as the first pilot for the "Devil Hunter Specialization" program.

"That's okay, learning another language is a good thing," Kobeni said optimistically.

"Since we're catching a flight this afternoon, would you like to go say goodbye to your family first?" Chiya asked, thinking of her eight siblings. Excluding her parents, Kobeni had a good relationship with her eight sisters and her younger brother.

"If we're not in a rush, I would really like to say goodbye to them," Kobeni said.

"Of course we're not in a rush. Come on, I'll go with you."
