Chapter 72 - Chapter 72

Pov Narrator.

Isagi took a long sip from his little cup of coffee as he finished eating his daily eight eggs. Like every morning after training to failure, he had prepared his usual breakfast. It was practically a ritual by that point.

He raised his gaze slightly and rubbed his hands together excitedly. He had gotten up early solely for this moment.

"I got up early just for this. System... show me the description of the last reward I obtained." He ordered with a smile of anticipation as he settled more comfortably into the chair. "I have high expectations."

The system's holographic screen appeared in front of Isagi with its characteristic bluish glow. Several lines of information quickly scrolled by before coming to a stop.

In the center appeared an image of the weapon. A katana. Isagi began reading carefully. Little by little, a smile started to form on his face. When he reached the abilities, he whistled under his breath.

---

Weapon: Magatsumi.

Type: Enchanted Sword (made for killing).

Special abilities:

• Enhanced vitality:Grants greater physical endurance and accelerates the recovery of wounds.

• Life absorption:Absorbs the life and vitality of enemies and the surrounding environment.

• Flower field:If a person comes into contact with the flower field, flowers and branches will begin to grow from their skin and mouth, killing them from the inside out while the flowers slowly drain their spiritual energy and vitality.

---

Isagi read every word, and as he continued, his back gradually straightened more and more. That sword sounded incredibly dangerous. It wasn't just a katana. It was a weapon designed to kill in the most brutal way possible. It absorbed vitality. Strengthened its wielder. And on top of that, it possessed an ability capable of making flowers sprout inside the bodies of its victims until they were completely consumed.

It was a rather unpleasant way to die... But for others.

"Oh... Oh! Is there more?" Isagi said with obvious surprise upon discovering that the sword didn't only possess passive abilities, but also its own techniques.

He raised an eyebrow with interest and continued reading. Most of the techniques had insect names. Centipede. Bee. Spider... Each one seemed to have a different function, and the further he went down the list, the greater his curiosity became.

But then... His eyes stopped on one particular technique.

Butterfly.

He had barely finished reading its description when his eyes suddenly widened. A shiver ran down his entire back and the skin on his arms broke out in goosebumps.

---

Technique:

Butterfly: Summons a butterfly that allows the wielder to perform a massively amplified slash that instantly cuts through the space in front of them.

---

"T-this is..." Isagi's voice trembled slightly as he reread the line to make sure he hadn't misunderstood. "This katana... can launch spatial slashes."

He remained completely motionless for several seconds. Staring intently at the system screen. This no longer made any sense. That weapon couldn't simply be special grade. There had to be a higher category.

First: It improved the physical abilities of its user.

Then. It could absorb the life and vitality of its enemies. On top of that, it possessed a technique capable of killing from the inside with a flower field. And now... A slash that directly cut through space.

It was absurd. That attack looked far too similar to Sukuna's world-cutting slash. And according to the description... It didn't even require hand signs or chants to perform.

"Well, although it reminds me more of Vergil's Yamato than Sukuna." He nodded to himself as he crossed his arms, trying to find a more fitting comparison.

That ability looked much more like the Corruptor of Nuns. He remained silent for a second. He blinked a couple of times and frowned.

"Why did Bury the Light suddenly start playing in my head?" He muttered with a confused expression. "Could a storm be coming?"

He instinctively turned his gaze toward the window. He watched the sky for a few seconds. No, it was still completely clear.

So he shrugged and settled back into his plastic chair.

Isagi pressed select and, instantly, the katana appeared in his hand wrapped in a faint glow from the system. His fingers closed around the handle almost instinctively. Now that he had it in his hands and wasn't merely looking at its representation on the holographic screen, he could perceive its presence much better.

Even without drawing it, he could feel how absurdly sharp it was. As if the sword were eager to cut through anything that stood in its way. With a soft click, he lightly pushed the guard with his thumb.

A small portion of the blade was revealed. That minimal movement was enough for a cold gleam to run across the steel.

Isagi swallowed. Then he finished drawing it completely. The blade gleamed elegantly beneath the room's light. However, despite having drawn it from the sheath, the dreaded Flower Field did not appear.

"I think the description said that, to activate the weapon, I had to say its name." He muttered thoughtfully as he examined the blade from different angles.

He remained silent for a few seconds. He wasn't entirely convinced. Activating a weapon capable of draining the life from everything around it inside his own house sounded like an extremely stupid idea.

"Ah! I really want to use it." A smile full of excitement appeared on his face. "Especially that attack, 'Butterfly.' I want to see what a spatial slash looks like and how difficult it is to use."

His caution almost completely disappeared. It was replaced by childlike excitement. The same feeling a child would have upon receiving a new toy and immediately wanting to try it out. There was only one small problem. Magatsumi's abilities were far too dangerous.

He couldn't go around throwing spatial slashes or activating flower fields just because he felt like it. There was a high probability he'd end up destroying something... Or someone.

"I have to go to work... yeah, yeah, yeah." He said as he gripped the katana's handle a little tighter. "It's time to test out my new work equipment." His eyes shone with excitement.

His workaholic instinct had reached maximum level.

Location: Public Safety - Makima's Office.

Makima had barely taken her seat as she placed some papers beside her desk. As usual, she began organizing them calmly before reviewing the first one. Since yesterday, the Shark Fiend, Beam, had been far too restless, repeatedly insisting that he wanted to work alongside "Lord Chainsaw," meaning Denji.

So she was seeing if she could let him accompany Denji somehow. It was a quiet morning; the only sound in the office was the faint rustling of the pages between her hands. That was why, when the door suddenly burst open, her eyebrows rose and she blinked several times, slightly surprised by the sudden interruption.

It was Isagi, who nearly knocked the door off its hinges after kicking it open, which was quite unusual, since he had never entered that way before. Besides, he looked much more enthusiastic than usual. His eyes shone with unusual energy, and he walked with such determination that it gave the impression he had been chasing after work for several minutes.

"Makima, I urgently need work! Give me work!" Isagi walked directly toward the desk, placing both hands on it without hiding the enthusiasm written all over his face.

It was obvious that, for some reason, he was desperate to get a mission.

"Work this early? What's the reason for such urgency for a mission? The daily patrol hasn't even started yet." Makima replied, completely ignoring Isagi's abrupt entrance, as if it were an unimportant detail. She directed all her attention toward him. "Mmm... Did something happen? I know you're obsessed with work, but I've never seen you as motivated as you are today." She tilted her head slightly, watching him curiously.

That reaction was unusual even for Isagi, so she couldn't help but wonder what kind of idea had gotten into his head for him to suddenly show up like this.

"It's because I heard a song that motivated me. It was all about working, and then, a hit of Workbanina hit me."

It was only half true, since, while messing around with the system, he discovered that it could play music... but it couldn't tell the time. In other words, Isagi's system had several pretty useful functions, but not something as basic as telling him what time it was. By that point, he had stopped trying to make sense of it.

"I don't know what 'Workbanina' is, but if you're so motivated, how about we have a second date?" Makima suggested lightly with a small smile. Her voice sounded as calm as always, as if the proposal had come up in the most natural way possible. "You work too much. The raid to capture Katana-Man only ended yesterday. Don't you think you deserve a break?"

"Mmmm..." Isagi thought about it for a few seconds.

His enthusiasm for getting work decreased slightly as he weighed both options. He really wanted to try out Magatsumi, he was dying to use it and discover what it was capable of. But on the other hand, going out with Makima didn't sound bad either. After a few moments of reflection, he finally made a decision.

"Well... tomorrow, then?"

"Tomorrow is the day off for most people, so yes, we can start early with the date. What do you think?" Makima asked, calmly interlacing her fingers over the desk. Although she was still asking the question, deep down she already imagined what Isagi's answer would be after seeing the expression on his face.

"Alright."

Isagi sighed in resignation. It seemed that his new weapon still wouldn't be making its debut, and he'd been dying to use it for quite some time. Even so, he eventually calmed down. Magatsumi wasn't going anywhere; he could try it another day. For now, he decided to stay in the office a little longer to find out what he would have to do during that day.

The next day...

"Hahahaha, I'm a genius. Who needs to spend money at the movie theater concession stand? Thanks to the fact that I can store things in my shadow or in the system's inventory, I can bring an entire chicken into the theater." Isagi chuckled quietly as he waited at the entrance of a movie theater, checking all the food he had secretly brought in.

He looked at his little "treasure" with satisfaction, completely proud of having gotten around the concession stand's outrageous prices.

A three-liter Coke so he wouldn't get thirsty and several churros, as they were called in his original country. Isagi wasn't going to spend money on movie theater food; it was far too expensive. So, like anyone with access to a shadow capable of storing objects, he simply decided to bring his own.

"Isagi, you got here early. Did I make you wait?"

Isagi turned around upon hearing his name and saw Makima walking toward him. Her hair was loose, moving slightly in the breeze, and she wore a long skirt with a button-up jacket over it, along with long black stockings and high heels. Her way of dressing was elegant without being excessive. She looked beautiful.

"Huh? No, of course not. I got here like five minutes ago. I was making the final preparations to stuff myself with food during the movie." Isagi stood up, since he had been crouching down with his hand inside his own shadow. "And what will we do after the movie?" Isagi himself had also dressed nicely for the occasion, although maintaining the casual and informal tone he liked.

"Actually, I was planning for us to do nothing but watch movies from here until sunset." Makima replied, stopping in front of him with a small smile, a simple afternoon.

A movie marathon without interruptions or work-related worries.
