Blackmore was still glaring up at me from against the pillow, eyes sharp with annoyance instead of fear, breathing slightly uneven from where I'd grabbed his jaw a second earlier. Most people changed after moments like that. Even confident people usually did. They looked away eventually. Hesitated. Got nervous.

If anything, Vaughn only looked more irritated that I kept invading his space.
