Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 – The First Pieces on the Board

The main terms of cooperation were settled quickly.

By the end of the conversation, Ethan Voss and Xavier's School had established a preliminary partnership.

In truth, Professor Xavier had proven more open-minded than Ethan expected. Of course, Ethan's subtle telepathic influence might have helped smooth things along, but that hardly mattered now.

What mattered was the result.

Ethan would provide a sanctuary for mutants.

And mutants, in turn, would strengthen the power of his Divine Kingdom.

It was a perfect exchange.

From this point forward, Ethan planned to deepen his connection with Xavier's School. His intention wasn't to completely change the course of events he already knew. Instead, he would only adjust small details while keeping the overall trajectory intact.

That way, he could maintain control over the larger situation and harvest the greatest possible advantage.

Soon afterward, Charles prepared to leave with the rest of the X-Men.

Wolverine, however, asked to speak with Rogue first.

Rogue was visibly surprised when she saw the entire team appear in Noah Town. She clearly hadn't expected so many people to come looking for her.

Logan quietly guided her away from the others.

"Mary," he said awkwardly, "about what happened yesterday… I'm sorry."

After hearing his explanation, Rogue finally seemed to relax.

However, a new problem quickly emerged.

She didn't know whether she wanted to leave or stay.

Logan hadn't lied to her. He had honestly told her about Ethan's ability to suppress mutant powers and allow mutants to temporarily live as ordinary humans.

That possibility made Rogue hesitate.

Because of that, the X-Men themselves were unsure what decision to make. Should they encourage her to return with them, or let her stay here for a while?

Ethan watched the scene calmly.

According to what he remembered, Magneto was currently searching for a chance to capture Rogue.

Unfortunately, Professor Xavier and the others had misunderstood the situation. They believed Magneto was targeting Wolverine instead.

Ethan decided to give things a little push.

"Logan," he said thoughtfully, "I heard Magneto might have sent someone to attack you recently."

Wolverine glanced toward him.

"If Magneto really is looking for you," Ethan continued, "then this place is probably the safest location for you right now."

He paused before adding another line with deliberate concern.

"If you return to Xavier's School… I'm afraid Magneto might launch a surprise attack there."

His expression remained serious.

"And if that happens, you could end up bringing danger to the academy."

Logan's brow twitched slightly.

He answered without hesitation.

"I'm not afraid of Magneto," he said bluntly. "If he wants a fight, he can come find me."

"No, Logan," Jean said quickly.

She stepped forward, clearly worried.

"You know Magneto can manipulate magnetic fields. Your entire skeleton is metal."

Storm nodded in agreement.

"Against him, you'd be at a massive disadvantage."

Cyclops crossed his arms and sighed.

"In front of Magneto, you'd practically be a toy."

Logan immediately turned toward him.

"Oh yeah?" he snapped. "Sounds like you've got plenty of experience being treated like one."

Scott frowned.

"I'm trying to help," he said irritably. "You don't have to act like an idiot about it."

The two were already seconds away from starting another argument.

Ethan suddenly stepped forward and casually placed a hand on Scott's shoulder.

"Relax," he said in a comforting tone. "I know Logan's personality can be a bit rough, but he did save your life after all."

Cyclops froze.

His brow immediately tightened.

"What do you mean he saved my life?" Scott asked suspiciously. "We just met. He hasn't saved me from anything."

Ethan blinked as if realizing he had made a mistake.

"Oh," he said awkwardly. "You didn't know?"

He rubbed the back of his head.

"Sorry. That was my fault for talking too much."

Cyclops stared at him in silence.

Wolverine, however, took a step forward.

"You know about my past?" he asked quietly.

His voice carried a sharp edge.

"Tell me."

Ethan glanced toward Professor Xavier.

"Didn't the professor explain some of it already?"

Logan shook his head.

"The professor can only see fragments," he said. "Just bits and pieces. I want the whole story."

Ethan hesitated.

"I don't know everything," he admitted slowly. "Only the important parts."

"That's enough," Logan said immediately. "Start talking."

Ethan remained silent for several seconds.

"Your life is filled with pain," he finally said. "I'm not sure you're ready to hear all of it at once."

He looked directly at Logan.

"If you want, you can stay here for a while and take things slowly. I'll tell you everything I know bit by bit."

Logan didn't respond.

Ethan nodded slightly.

"Then let's start with the beginning."

Professor Xavier sighed quietly but gave Ethan a small nod, allowing him to continue.

"You were born sometime around 1860," Ethan began. "Your family was wealthy, but not exactly happy."

"Your home was located in northwestern Canada."

He paused briefly before continuing.

"One night in 1875, your family's gardener suddenly rushed into the house and murdered your father."

Logan's eyes narrowed.

"The shock awakened your mutant powers," Ethan said. "Bone claws emerged from your hands for the first time."

"You killed the gardener."

Ethan's voice softened.

"But before he died, he told you something."

"He was actually your biological father."

The group went completely silent.

Storm stared in disbelief.

"Logan is over a hundred years old?"

Scott frowned deeply.

"He used to have bone claws?"

Jean looked stunned.

"And he has a brother?"

Logan slowly processed the information.

"My brother?" he asked quietly.

"Yes," Ethan confirmed. "The gardener's son. Your half-brother."

He continued calmly.

"Your mother saw what happened that night. She believed you were a monster."

"After that, your brother took you away from your home."

"You spent years wandering the world together."

Logan stood frozen.

"So I killed my own father," he murmured.

Then he looked up suddenly.

"My brother," he said. "Where is he now?"

Ethan shook his head slightly.

"You don't need to worry about him being dead," he replied. "He's also a mutant. His abilities are very similar to yours."

"If you've survived this long… he probably has too."

Logan's eyes sharpened.

"Do you know where he is?"

"I don't," Ethan said. "But I should warn you about something."

He met Logan's gaze steadily.

"Your brother wasn't always on your side."

"In fact, he once worked with the people who harmed you."

"Even though you might have reconciled later, he's not the kind of man you imagine him to be."

Logan fell silent.

For years he had desperately wanted to uncover his lost memories.

But this truth felt far heavier than he expected.

He slowly lit another cigar.

"So that's why you hesitated to tell me," he muttered. "I killed my father. My mother thought I was a monster. My brother betrayed me."

He exhaled a long breath of smoke.

"Guess my life's been pretty messed up."

Ethan watched him quietly.

"But the part that might make you angriest…" he began.

"Enough."

Professor Xavier interrupted gently.

"Mr. Voss," he said, "that's more than enough for today."

Ethan nodded immediately.

"Of course."

He turned toward Logan.

"You can stay here for a while," he said. "Spend time with Rogue. Relax."

"When you're ready, I'll tell you the rest."

Logan hesitated.

Before he could decide, Professor Xavier spoke again.

"You should remain here for now," Charles said calmly. "This place is safer."

He looked around Noah Town.

"In the future, many mutants will likely move here. Someone will need to help guide them."

Rogue watched Logan anxiously.

After a moment, he sighed.

"Fine," he muttered.

He would stay here for a while.

Partly to learn the truth about his past.

And partly to make sure this strange new world was truly safe for Rogue.

Meanwhile, Ethan escorted Professor Xavier and the others back through the portal.

They agreed on the next steps.

From time to time, Ethan would visit Xavier's School and escort mutants who wished to move to Noah Town.

After seeing them off, Ethan returned alone to the top floor of Typhon Tower.

Once there, he carefully examined his own condition.

Every member of the X-Men had entered the Divine Kingdom.

Which meant Ethan had gained all of their abilities.

However, those abilities only reached their full power inside the Divine Kingdom itself.

Outside the realm, they still existed—but their strength dropped dramatically.

For now, they were barely usable.

Ethan suspected the Divine Kingdom operated according to something like fundamental laws—rules, logic, and structure that governed its power.

Those laws had to be consistent and realistic.

His own knowledge wasn't advanced enough to push the system beyond its natural limits.

Mutant powers, however, already existed within the framework of the world's physics.

Even if Ethan didn't fully understand their underlying mechanisms, he could still replicate them and push them toward their theoretical maximum potential.

And as the Divine Kingdom continued to grow stronger, those abilities outside the realm would likely grow stronger as well.

Once he finished analyzing his current condition, Ethan immediately issued orders to both his intelligence network and his private armed teams.

"Investigate the Worthington Laboratory on Alcatraz," he instructed.

"Gather every piece of information you can."

He paused briefly.

"And prepare a rescue operation."

There was a particular test subject he intended to acquire.
