Ashrik exhaled slowly, the breath fogging faintly against the cloth that covered the lower half of his face. Sweat had long soaked his back. His gaze remained on the chamber further ahead.
"Let's watch for now," he murmured. "No rash moves."
Isaac nodded, his usual carefreeness gone. "Yeah. After that... charging in blindly would be stupid."
Ashrik replied nothing. His eyes narrowed when he saw a figure emerge from the chamber, footsteps echoing softly against the concrete.
It was the young man named Kevin. As if the weight of the world had pressed directly on him, his shoulders slumped.
Kevin paused at the entrance before looking back. His gaze lingered on the darkness, most likely to where his brother lay groaning in pain.
Kevin clenched his fists. He whispered, "I can never kill you, but... is this the only way for you to be free?"
Then he turned, heading up the stairs.
