That night, Zade didn't pull into the driveway until well past eleven o'clock.
Rai had tried his best to wait up, but an insane, bone-deep tiredness had eventually claimed him. Refusing to embarrass himself any further by passing out cold on the living room sofa, Rai gave up, retreated to his own room, and fell straight into bed.
And guess what?
Zade fucking hated it.
The moment Zade stepped through the front door, the silence of the house hit him like a cold wall. He hated how the sofa was completely empty, missing the familiar figure usually on it. He couldn't even pinpoint when it had started, but as he stood in the dim entryway, he realized he had actually expected to see Rai waiting for him.
Granted, Rai was usually an early sleeper, but over the past few days, he'd always been up late, buried under piles of work.
'Did he not have work today?'
Zade wondered, a strange, sour disappointment settling in his chest.
