Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Jealous Little Pepper

"Extra! Extra! Civil War at Stark Industries!"

"Captain America versus Iron Monger! The Super Soldier shows his might once again!"

"Shocking! Captain America actually did this to an old man!"

The morning's battle made headlines by afternoon, instantly becoming the hottest topic of the day.

The public was left in confusion, while both the military and the government turned their attention to Tony Stark.

Compared to Captain America's return, Tony's high-tech armor that allowed him to fly and conceal himself was far more eye-catching.

Tony had just announced the shutdown of Stark Industries' weapons development department—and now he was creating even more advanced weapons? What a contradiction!

After finishing the interview, Steve went to check on the shaken Pepper Potts.

Her professional outfit and the soft innocence in her single-strap heels could turn any saint into a wolf.

Pepper leaned lazily on the sofa, her breathing unsteady.

Her high heel dangled from her toes, and the faint teeth marks on her jade-like skin told the story of what had just happened.

The phone rang. Steve, still in his calm "post-battle" state, picked it up.

"Explain."

"Honey, Lawyer Osborne, the president of Tianma Petroleum, is suing you for assault in a nightclub. The legal process is already underway, and the court has notified S.H.I.E.L.D.," came Sharon Carter's calm voice.

She had gradually taken over operations for Hydra's branch network and also managed intelligence affairs.

"Oh, I see. I'll find a lawyer and have some fun with them."

Steve didn't take it seriously. Coincidentally, he had wanted to reach out to someone anyway—what perfect timing.

"I've arranged for your official records to be cleaned up. It's just a nuisance lawsuit to annoy you. They might have more tricks coming, though. I'll keep an eye on it," Sharon said.

She had considered hiring a lawyer for him but wanted to check if Steve had plans first.

"I know. It's fine. I'm not worried about them. Just let me know if anything changes, and thank you for your hard work."

Steve knew exactly how to talk to women—keeping Sharon happy meant he could keep slacking off.

Handling paperwork himself would be such a waste of time.

The world was so big, and there were far better things to explore—both outside and behind closed doors.

"Okay, I understand. Be careful. I'm hanging up now. Bye, honey. I love you!"

"Yeah, love you too."

As soon as Steve hung up, he noticed Pepper glaring at him with a mix of jealousy and disbelief.

That was a little too much, even for her—he had just finished being intimate with her and immediately switched to sweet-talking another woman on the phone!

Even with his thick skin, Steve felt a bit embarrassed. "That was Sharon. During a mission, we ran into Deka, a Rockefeller family member. Things got… complicated."

Pepper instantly sat up, her drowsiness gone. "Are you okay? Do you need my help?"

That was Pepper Potts for you. Even jealous, she still prioritized Steve's safety.

A true soulmate could accept Steve having other women—but that didn't mean there wouldn't be jealousy or drama.

"It's okay. I'll handle it. Pepper, once this is over, we'll get married. I promise I'll take care of you."

He knew how to deflect—mentioning marriage was the surest way to stop her from asking more questions.

"Alright. If you need anything, just say so. I'll always be here."

Pepper got up and headed to the bathroom to freshen up. As Stark Industries' CEO, she had plenty of problems to deal with now that Tony's secret was out.

Steve chuckled softly, following her in—ready to change the battlefield and continue their "fight."

Wilson Building, Manhattan

Inside an office, Wilson Fisk—known to most as Kingpin—personally brewed coffee and placed it before a pale young man. His expression was one of cautious respect.

"I wonder what Young Master Deka requires of me?"

As New York's underground boss, Fisk hadn't inherited power—he had clawed his way up from nothing. But to sit at the top, one needed both ability and powerful connections.

His connection was the Rockefeller family.

To outsiders, Kingpin appeared unstoppable—but to Deka Rockefeller, he was just a well-trained dog.

Deka picked up the coffee, his pale face filled with hatred. "Help me kill someone."

Kingpin's brow lifted slightly. "And who might that be?"

"Captain America. Steve Rogers."

Deka's voice turned venomous. His father intended to destroy Captain America through legal and political means—but Deka wanted to make it personal.

The lawsuit would keep Captain America busy while the media tore apart his reputation. Then they'd plant evidence to frame him for crimes he didn't commit.

Destroying both body and reputation—this was the Rockefeller family's way.

For the wealthy elite, justice was a tool to be bought and bent.

Kingpin didn't fully understand the Rockefeller family's endgame, but he didn't care. He just wanted to know how to get paid.

"Young Master, you know I don't have many people capable enough for something like this."

Deka smiled coldly. "That's fine. I brought someone."

He clapped his hands, and a man stepped out of the shadows—dressed in a dark bodysuit with a bullseye insignia on his mask.

Bullseye.

The Rockefeller family's top assassin.

Even Kingpin felt a chill. That man's eyes gleamed with deadly precision.

"Yes, leave it to me," Kingpin said quickly.

After sending Deka and his entourage away, Bullseye gathered some of Kingpin's men and went to prepare his ambush.

He was thrilled by the idea of assassinating a living legend. If he succeeded, his name would echo through the criminal underworld.

As for moral qualms about killing an old war hero? Please—he didn't care about "ethics."

Meanwhile, in an apartment in Queens…

Peter Parker lay in bed, pale and sweating. He had gone on a school trip to a science exhibition earlier that day.

While secretly snapping a photo of his crush, Mary Jane, he had been bitten by a strange spider.

Now he was twitching, nauseous, dizzy—and utterly miserable.

He had no idea his life was about to change forever.
