Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: The Vampire King's Daughter’s Marriage Conditions

Nissa looked up at her father, her eyes filled with surprise, disbelief, and confusion.

The last time the Rockefeller family had proposed marriage, her father neither agreed nor refused — he simply stalled, clearly trying to sell her at the highest price.

She had been furious then, unwilling to be treated like a commodity. But because of her lineage, she couldn't change her fate. Many of her siblings had already been "traded" away like political chess pieces. As long as the kingdom remained stable, what did one child matter?

She didn't dislike Steve — in fact, she liked him a little.

A handsome, tall, and honest man. Someone strong, genuine, and without pretense.

In a world drowning in materialism, it was rare to find someone so real.

And he wasn't just strong; he also had the ability to protect her and had even caught the attention of her father — something few men could do.

Over the years, Nissa had seen too many arrogant men who looked impressive but were hollow inside. Steve Rogers was different — sincere and grounded — and that made her heart soften toward him.

As for the time when her bodyguard, Wei Lian, had been taken away for punishment, she hadn't felt it was excessive. In her mind, that was simply how discipline worked in her world.

Compared to Nissa's inner conflict, Steve was far more straightforward.

"I'm guessing the old man has other conditions," Steve said calmly. "Why not tell us all at once?"

After all, nothing in this world comes free.

If something looked too good to be true, it was probably bait — and there was always an explosion hidden underneath.

North didn't get angry. Instead, he nodded approvingly, looking pleased.

"As expected of you, Captain. Your insight and composure are exactly why I can trust my precious Nissa to you."

After the polite words came the real condition.

"Not long ago," North began, "a mutant strain of vampire appeared — they call themselves Harvesters. They feed on both vampires and humans.

Those bitten by them — vampire or human — mutate into hybrid creatures. These creatures have immense vitality and are immune to weaknesses such as silver and garlic.

Their strength, speed, and regeneration have all increased drastically. I want you to help eliminate these creatures. If you succeed, I will officially betroth Nissa to you."

The task didn't sound too difficult — perhaps even a bit straightforward.

Even these hybrids still shared the vampires' greatest weakness: sunlight.

"Alright, I'll take it," Steve said without hesitation. "Where's their lair?"

He decided to go along with the plan — take the reward first, deal with the danger later.

A flicker of emotion flashed in Nissa's eyes. She knew how strong those mutant vampires were. For Steve to accept so readily — wasn't that a sign of courage and love?

She couldn't have been more wrong.

For Steve, this was just another mission — a chance to complete his objectives and maybe enjoy some peace afterward. What he truly wanted was a simple, happy life — a few loving wives, children, and quiet days.

Still, the mission rewards were good — and that was motivation enough.

"Good," North said with satisfaction. "I'll send the Blood Guard to assist you. Nissa, once you've gathered the information, go with the Captain."

"Yes, Father," Nissa replied. She glanced at Steve, her eyes filled with trust and calm determination.

Two days later.

At the Pentagon, General Thaddeus Ross sat in his office, cigar in hand, signing a stack of documents.

Suddenly, a report came in — an elderly man had died mysteriously in Miami.

The coroner's report mentioned gamma radiation infection as the cause of death — something highly unusual. The report quickly made its way to Ross's desk.

Having been tracking the Hulk for years, Ross's eyes lit up. He hadn't found any trace of the creature since losing him near Antarctica.

"I didn't expect this... Excellent. I've finally found a lead."

Without wasting time, Ross ordered a full investigation into the cause of the gamma exposure. If they could trace the source, they might finally locate the Hulk.

By his reasoning, the Hulk would always seek shelter in a place he considered safe — and this clue could be the thread that led them straight to him.

But finding the Hulk was one thing — capturing him alive was another.

Ross picked up the phone again, dialed a number, and waited.

After several rings, the call connected.

"Fury, long time no see. I need to borrow someone from you."

Direct and to the point — typical of a military man.

Nick Fury raised an eyebrow. He was already monitoring General Ross's activities; after all, Bruce Banner — the Hulk — was also under the Avengers' watch.

"Oh? And who exactly do you want to borrow?" Fury asked cautiously.

"Captain America — Steve Rogers."

It sounded reckless. Even for a super soldier, going up against the Hulk was no small feat. But Ross had a plan — Captain America's vibranium shield could withstand the Hulk's attacks long enough for their weapons to be deployed.

Fury sighed, rubbing his bald head in frustration.

"He's... not available," Fury said carefully. "He's on a classified mission — technically on leave. If you really need him, you'll have to talk to him directly. I'll send you his number."

Even Fury couldn't refuse a direct order from higher up — the Secretary-General himself had intervened, which was rare and normally not allowed.

But then again, Steve Rogers was no ordinary man. He was Captain America.

"Fine," Ross said. "I'll talk to him myself."

He hung up, unaware that Steve's so-called 'classified mission' looked a lot like a vacation.

Manhattan National Park — Villa District

Steve was helping Sharon with her morning workout — a mix of indoor training and outdoor jogging.

Just as they were mid-session, his phone began to ring.

Annoyed, Steve answered. "Who is it?"

"My name is General Thaddeus Ross," came the voice. "I need your help on a mission — tracking a dangerous fugitive."

"What's your price?" Steve interrupted immediately.

Ross blinked, caught off guard. "What?"

"What's the price?" Steve repeated casually. "You're asking for help — that means you're paying for it, right?"

Ross was momentarily speechless. "Are you really Captain America, Steve Rogers?"

Steve smirked. "If you're asking for my help, then it must be dangerous — and dangerous jobs cost extra. Think about the price, then call me back."

Without waiting for a reply, Steve hung up the call, tossed his phone aside, and turned back toward Sharon with a mischievous grin.

She covered her mouth, trying not to laugh — or make a sound that might distract him again.
