Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: Vampire Princess, Captured!

Inside a specially reinforced high-density alloy cage, Bruce Banner sat dejectedly in the middle.

When he transformed into the Hulk, his consciousness was hazy—he could barely remember what he'd done.

But Hulk and Banner were one and the same, two sides of one being. If the Hulk committed a crime, Banner also had to bear the responsibility.

That was why he felt so guilty after injuring his girlfriend, Betty Ross.

Even if it wasn't intentional, the fact remained—it couldn't be denied.

Armed guards patrolled the outskirts of the temporary stronghold.

Steve Rogers walked into the cell and sat across from Banner.

Banner didn't know him personally, but the face looked familiar. After all, Captain America's image was everywhere in the media.

"My name is Steve Rogers. Most people call me Captain America."

Banner was stunned. No wonder the man looked familiar—he was the Captain America.

"Didn't you die in World War II?"

"I was frozen for seventy years," Steve replied calmly. "I was lucky to survive.

I know what it's like to be treated like a monster. Politicians promote me because they need a symbol to support their rule.

You've been captured because they want to weaponize you—or steal your power to create something even stronger."

Steve's tone was steady and understanding, appealing to Banner's pain through shared experience.

"Thank you, Captain," Banner murmured, lowering his head. All he wanted now was a cure. If capture meant a chance at that, he would accept it.

"You're welcome," Steve said gently. "I'll be on leave soon. Do you want me to deliver a letter to your girlfriend?

With all due respect, the gamma radiation in your body is deadly. Even being close to her could kill her."

Steve's voice was sincere—it was clear he genuinely cared.

And he wasn't exaggerating. Anyone capable of bearing Hulk's child would hardly be human.

Banner's ex-girlfriend, Betty Ross, was the daughter of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, the very man leading this operation.

Steve's words made sense. Banner sighed deeply, eyes full of regret.

"Captain… I just want to be normal again."

Steve shook his head. "You should learn to accept who you are. It's not a curse—it's a gift.

There are other enhanced individuals like me. Some turned to crime and were condemned by the world.

But if you're willing, I can recommend you to join the Avengers. Right now, it's me, Tony Stark, and Blade.

We're all outsiders, gifted in ways ordinary people can't understand. But together, we can make the world a better place."

If anyone else had said this, Banner might have dismissed it.

But these were Captain America's words—the living symbol of honor and justice.

When you felt lost, trusting Captain America never felt wrong.

"Alright, Captain. I believe you. Could you get me a pen and some paper? I want to write to Betty—please give her the letter."

"Of course," Steve replied with a smile.

Ten minutes later, Steve left the facility and returned to New York.

Tony Stark stayed behind to study Banner's blood, hoping to find a way to suppress the gamma mutation—and possibly cure his own palladium poisoning.

New York City, 3:00 a.m.

In a dimly lit nightclub, Nissa looked at the exhausted Steve who had just returned, her eyes soft and full of emotion.

"You don't have to work so hard," she said gently.

"For you, I'm willing to give everything," Steve said earnestly. "I'm not a perfect man, but I'll do everything I can to protect the woman I love.

Seventy years ago, I promised a girl a dance. That promise cost me everything when I chose to stop the Nazis from dropping an atomic bomb. I crashed the plane into the ice myself.

I missed that date by seventy years—and when I woke up, the world had changed.

So I made a new promise: I'll protect the woman I love, no matter what. And that woman is you, Nissa."

His words carried the sincerity and courage that only Captain America could possess.

Nissa, a vampire who had lived for nearly a century, had seen countless men—but none made her heart race like Steve Rogers.

Her beautiful face lit up with a radiant smile as she stepped forward and embraced him.

"Steve, will you always be good to me?"

"Yes, Nissa. I love you."

"I love you too, Steve. Don't leave tonight—I have so much to tell you."

"And I have seventy years of love to make up for," he said with a grin.

(Preferably love and savings, not just the first part.)

As the night deepened, passion replaced words.

"Ding—Nissa has become your girlfriend."

"Ding—Nissa has become your soulmate."

Suddenly, a faint overlay appeared before Steve's eyes—a "vampire aura" and two green health bars, one for Nissa and one for Whistler.

Green must mean allies, he guessed. Maybe an information display function would clarify things later.

Because she was a vampire, Nissa couldn't go out in daylight. Eternal life came at a price—eternal darkness.

After morning training, Nissa wiped the sweat from her skin, picked up the phone, and made a few quick calls.

When Steve emerged from the shower, she looked at him tenderly.

"Honey, I've arranged everything. When you have time, visit the Daily Bugle. I've already bought a newspaper there."

She hadn't forgotten his earlier goals—she wanted to help.

"Okay, honey. Thank you."

Steve wasn't after the female reporter herself, but rather the mission rewards that might follow.

If the information function worked as he hoped, he could clearly tell who were allies—and who were enemies.

"You're my husband," Nissa said softly. "This is what I should do. But Steve—be careful of the vampires in the Harvester. They're dangerous.

I don't know what my father is planning, but he wouldn't do this without a reason."

That was the power of love—something Nissa hadn't felt for a long time.

Her father, the ancient vampire lord Nomak, had over a thousand children. To him, they were less than pawns.

Nissa had endured that indifference all her life—but now, for Steve Rogers, her heart had awakened.

She had finally found someone worth protecting—and she had no intention of becoming a widow.
