"I guess I have to fix it AGAIN." She muttered. "Because I married the village joke."
"Ouch." My father murmured without looking up. "Words hurt, sweetheart."
"Yeah, but not as hurtful as being saddled with you!" My mother exhaled dramatically. "If only my father had listened to me and married me off to your father instead, I would be Alba the Beta's wife. Not Alba, the village laughingstock's wife."
She straightened her dress.
"So stand there, darling, while I fix this like I always do."
Pa looked up. Like usual, his eyes were devoid of any hint of anger or irritation. If there was ever the most patient man in the world, it would be my Pa.
He stood up. He walked to where Ma was and grabbed her.
Oh no. Not this again. Not now!
"Wren, get your greasy hands away from my—wooh!"
Ma was quiet as Pa started kissing her. She leaned into him, her hands coming up into his hair.
