CHAPTER 98
"First participant? You! Come up here." Jake called out as he calmly surveyed the small group of Aspirants who had stepped forward, randomly selecting a boy from the middle of the line.
Taking in a series of sharp, nervous breaths, the Aspirant stepped out and climbed the raised platform where the Captain stood waiting.
Standing exactly three meters away from the man, he shifted into a combat stance and readied himself for the challenge of a lifetime.
Beep, Beep!
Jake's watch emitted a crisp electronic tone as he finished tapping on the interface.
"And your two minutes starts…"
Beep!
"Now!"
Immediately, the Aspirant bolted forward.
He was a Grade 2.5 meta-human, but since the rules strictly forbade the use of his supernatural abilities, he had to rely solely on his raw physical conditioning and martial training.
To Ray, the Captain, and even Trisha, his speed wasn't particularly overwhelming.
