Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 – I The place where feet cannot reach

Raven did not sleep easily that night.

He was not afraid.

But his new thought would not leave him.

The marks… were not only symbols.

They were a path.

He lay on his back staring at the dark ceiling, remembering the lines he had drawn in the dirt beside the enormous tree.

One line.

Two lines.

A curve.

Several short lines.

All of them seemed to move… as if they were pointing toward only one direction.

He was not certain.

But he felt that something was waiting for him at the end of that path.

Something no one had ever seen.

With the first faint light of dawn, Raven had already left the place where he lived.

He did not tell anyone.

There was no reason to.

The forest at that hour felt different.

The mist was thick.

The air carried a light cold.

And the silence… was deeper than usual.

Raven walked in the same direction he had taken the day before.

Slowly.

His eyes carefully searched every tree trunk.

It did not take long before he found the first mark.

It was on the same tree he had seen yesterday.

The two parallel lines.

He paused in front of them only for a brief moment.

Then continued walking in the direction they pointed.

This was no longer simple curiosity.

It had become something like a silent game between him and the forest.

The forest placed the marks.

And he followed them.

After a long distance, he found the second mark.

The curved line.

He stopped for a moment.

Then looked deeper into the trees.

The mist had begun to thin slightly as the sun rose.

But the place he was heading toward still seemed strangely dim.

He continued walking.

Many minutes passed.

Then he noticed something he had never seen before.

The ground began to change.

It was no longer covered in thick layers of dry leaves.

Instead, it felt firmer.

As if feet rarely passed through this place.

Raven stopped for a moment.

Then he crouched and touched the ground with his hand.

It was cold.

But strangely clean.

He slowly lifted his head.

And looked ahead.

The trees in this part of the forest were different.

Older.

Taller.

And quieter.

Even the wind seemed slower here.

He could hear nothing but his own breathing.

He continued walking.

Until he reached another tree.

This time the mark was slightly different.

Three short lines.

Pointing downward.

Raven stepped closer.

He stared at them in silence.

Then he took the stone out of his pocket.

He slowly turned it between his fingers.

The two curved lines carved into the stone now felt familiar.

But something was still missing.

Something he had not yet understood.

He placed the stone back into his pocket.

Then looked again toward the direction of the three lines.

And continued walking.

The farther he went…

The quieter the forest became.

As if sound itself did not wish to enter this place.

After a long time walking, the mist began to disappear almost completely.

But the light did not grow stronger.

Instead, it became strangely dim.

Raven suddenly stopped.

Not because he saw a mark.

But because he felt something.

A faint sensation.

As if the place itself… was different.

He slowly looked around.

The trees stood in a wide circle.

And in the center…

There was an empty space.

A small clearing.

It was not large.

But it looked different from the rest of the forest.

Raven took one step forward.

Then another.

Until he reached the edge of the circle.

The ground inside looked unusually smooth.

No leaves.

No broken branches.

Not even tall grass.

Only quiet earth.

He stepped inside.

And in that moment…

He felt something strange.

It was not a sound.

And not movement.

Just a very faint sensation.

As if the air had become slightly heavier.

Raven stopped in the middle of the clearing.

He looked around.

Nothing.

Only the trees surrounding the space from every direction.

But he felt something else.

Slowly, he took the stone from his pocket.

The moment he looked at it…

He froze.

The two lines carved on its surface seemed…

Clearer.

They had not changed.

But his feeling toward them had.

He slowly raised his head.

Then looked at the ground in front of him.

For the first time since entering the clearing…

He noticed something small.

A line.

Extremely faint.

Drawn in the soil.

Raven slowly knelt down.

And moved his hand above the line.

It was not a natural scratch.

It was a carefully drawn mark.

He followed it with his eyes.

It extended a little…

Then stopped.

But when he looked around…

He noticed something else.

Another line.

A little farther away.

Then another.

Raven stepped back.

Then looked down at the ground from above.

And for a brief moment…

His heart stopped.

Because the small lines scattered across the ground…

Were not random.

They were part of the same shape.

A very large shape.

So large that it could not be seen completely from the ground.

Raven slowly stood up.

His heart beat slowly but strongly.

He looked at the stone in his hand.

Then at the lines on the ground.

The thought that had not fully formed in his mind yesterday…

Was beginning to become clear.

The marks on the trees…

Were not just the path.

They were guiding him to this place.

But the real question was not why.

It was what.

What did this enormous shape drawn in the earth mean?

And why was it hidden here?

Raven stood silently for several minutes.

The wind began moving through the trees surrounding the clearing.

But it did not enter the center.

As if the place itself…

Did not want to move.

Then something very small happened.

Something almost impossible to notice.

The two curved lines on the stone…

Shone for a brief moment.

A tiny moment.

Then everything returned to normal.

But Raven…

Saw it.

He slowly raised his head.

And looked again at the scattered lines on the ground.

And only in that moment…

He realized something very simple.

This place…

Was not the end.

It was the beginning.
