Chapter 36 - Chapter 35: The National Call-Up

The sun hung low over the National Trials Grounds, casting a warm golden hue over the field. The last few days had been a blur of uncertainty and anticipation. Rudra had given everything in the trials. Now, it was time for the selectors to make their decision. The long wait was finally coming to an end. His heart thudded in his chest, and his mind raced through the countless scenarios that could unfold.

The final selection list was about to be posted. It was an unsettling feeling for Rudra. Though he'd excelled under pressure and showcased his mental fortitude, the thought of failing here—after everything he'd worked for—felt unbearable.

Rudra (Thinking):

I've come so far… but will it be enough? This isn't just about cricket; this is about everything I've been preparing for. If I'm selected, it's the first real step toward everything I've dreamed of. If I'm not, all my work will be for nothing.

The team had gathered near the noticeboard, the air thick with nervous energy. Parents, coaches, and players stood in tense silence, each person glued to the board, waiting for the announcement. Veer Singh, who had been one of Rudra's biggest competitors during the trials, was pacing nervously, eyes scanning the list. Raghav, his childhood friend, was by his side, trying to mask his own unease with a forced smile.

Raghav (Clapping Rudra on the back):

"Don't worry, man. You've got this. You've already made us proud. But hey, I'll be honest—I'm really hoping I get in too. You know how we've been working our butts off."

Rudra returned Raghav's smile, but it was fleeting. His gaze remained fixed on the noticeboard as a sense of calm washed over him. He didn't know if he would make it, but he knew that he had left it all on the field. If that wasn't enough, then he could live with that.

The moment of truth arrived. The selectors were walking toward the board, accompanied by the official Karnataka Cricket Association representatives. The crowd hushed as they began to announce the names.

Selector 1 (Reading from the list):

"Raghav Sharma... Selected. Veer Singh... Selected. Rudra Sharma… Selected!"

The final name was said with such finality that it almost didn't register. Rudra Sharma. The moment his name was spoken, the world around him seemed to slow down. His mind had to process the information, but the next second, a wave of exhilaration crashed over him.

Raghav (Grinning, slapping Rudra's shoulder):

"I knew it, bro! I knew it! You're in! The state team's got a new star!"

Rudra (Breathing deeply, in disbelief):

"I'm in... I really am. I'm going to represent Karnataka."

The sound of applause and cheers around him faded as Rudra absorbed the moment. Dr. Subramanium, standing at the back of the crowd, nodded with a satisfied expression. The first hurdle had been crossed. Rudra had officially earned his place in the U-16 Karnataka State Team.

But despite the rush of happiness, Rudra knew that this was just the beginning. The real test lay ahead. He couldn't afford to rest on his laurels now. This was the opportunity he'd been working for—but now, he had to prove himself on a bigger stage.

Action Anand (From the commentary booth, excited):

"Rudra Sharma, the youngest prodigy from Karnataka, is officially a part of the U-16 team! The kid's been on fire, and now, he's got his chance to shine on the national stage! Watch out for this one, folks—he's here to stay!"

As the announcements continued, Rudra stood there, feeling a sense of quiet pride. It wasn't just about cricket for him. It was about everything he had envisioned since he woke up in this new life—the legacy he wanted to build, not just in sports but in every other arena he had touched.

...

The First Step Toward Glory

Later that evening, Rudra sat in his small room at home, his head spinning. He had barely processed the whirlwind of emotions when his father, Prem Nath, entered the room. There was a proud, yet concerned, look on his face.

Prem Nath (Smiling, but with a touch of seriousness):

"Well done, Rudra. I've always known you were destined for something big. But remember—this is just one step. The world won't hand you anything. You'll have to keep fighting, keep proving yourself. You're not just a cricketer. You're a businessman, a strategist. Don't lose sight of that."

Rudra (Nodding, resolute):

"I won't, Dad. This is just the start. But you're right, I need to keep thinking ahead. Cricket is a game, but the real victory comes from using everything I know to get ahead of the game."

As the conversation ended, Rudra's eyes drifted toward the small cricket bat propped up against the wall. He could feel the weight of everything that lay ahead. The journey from here wouldn't be easy. The competition, the pressure—it would all get harder. But Rudra wasn't afraid. He had already crossed so many boundaries, fought battles, and emerged victorious. He wasn't going to stop now.

His mental clarity was sharper than ever, and his foresight was fully activated. He could see the road ahead—clearer than anyone else. Every match, every challenge was an opportunity to level up, and he wouldn't let anyone stand in his way.

...

Rudra (To himself):

"From here, it's all about growth. One level at a time. I'm not just here to play. I'm here to change the game."

...

Next Chapter: Rudra faces his first real challenge as a U-16 player, leading the team in a crucial match against Tamil Nadu. Will he live up to his own expectations and prove that his selection was no fluke?
