Chapter 43 - Chapter 42: Drop Item—sun essence

Spring 25th, Thursday, rainy day, 6:00.

Pitter-patter... As soon as Daeron opened his eyes, he saw a steady drizzle falling outside the window.

"No need to water the plants today."

He got up and dressed, lit the fireplace as usual, and set a pot to boil an egg.

"Woof woof woof~~"

The puppy, Doro, came over, panting and wagging its tongue to act cute.

Daeron rubbed the dog's head and said softly, "The cabin is too simple; there's no kitchen or stove, so even cooking is just making do."

Although it didn't affect much, it was just a bit inconvenient.

However, after the cabin is upgraded and has a kitchen and stove, he can truly cook the dishes learned from 'The Queen of Sauce' program.

Some dishes even have special bonuses.

While the egg was boiling, he turned on the TV to check the programs.

[Weather Report]: "It will be a beautiful sunny day tomorrow."

[Fortune Teller]: "This is rare; the spirits are very indifferent today."

"..."

Daeron was surprised: "It's actually a special case with zero luck bonus."

Most of the time, besides lucky or unlucky days, what should appear is:

"The spirits feel neutral today. The day is in your hands."

Luck bonus is at (≥0.02 and ≤0.02, but ≠0)

On a zero luck day, the luck bonus = 0.

Daeron said cautiously, "Looks like I'll have to be careful going into the mines today."

After breakfast, he put on the straw hat won at the Egg Festival and headed out into the rain.

The rain hit the straw hat but didn't splash onto his clothes.

It was quite magical.

It was the 25th of Spring, and a batch of strawberries had ripened.

Daeron straightened his back, humming a little tune about a bountiful strawberry harvest, and began picking the strawberries.

Ten minutes later.

29 strawberries were harvested.

One gold-star quality strawberry, four silver-star quality strawberries, and twenty-five normal quality strawberries.

"Luck isn't bad."

Daeron smiled, wiped the water off the gold-star quality strawberry, and took a light bite to taste it.

The first gold-star quality strawberry was commemorative, so he couldn't bring himself to eat it.

The second one was fine.

Gold-star quality is rare; selling it or giving it as a gift are both excellent uses.

But Daeron was a level-headed person who knew how to take care of himself.

"Mmm, delicious!"

The fist-sized bright red strawberry entered his mouth, sweetness exploding on his taste buds with a slightly sour aftertaste, just like the most delicious candied haws.

But it was certainly much tastier.

Then, Daeron closed his eyes and felt a warm current emerge from his lower abdomen, making his whole body feel warm and cozy.

As expected of gold-star quality, the effect was far more powerful than silver-star or normal quality crops.

After snapping back to his senses.

He put away the silver-star quality strawberries and sold all the normal quality ones.

There were still some farm chores.

Petting the chickens, adding hay to the coop on a rainy day, picking up eggs... "Time to head out."

Daeron took a pack of wound medicine and set out with his neptune greatsword... Afternoon, 16:00.

Floor 49 of the mines.

Wrapped in a set of thick cotton clothes and braving the biting cold wind, Daeron quarried the iron-gray Iron Ore rocks.

The stone shell burst with a 'bang,' yielding several pieces of Iron Ore.

"So cold!"

Daeron put away his pickaxe and took out a warm boiled egg, wolfing it down.

Starting from Floor 40, the mines became the Frozen levels.

Looking around, the stone walls were covered in frost, the ground was cold and hard, some patches were covered in snow, and there were icy, hard stones and fragile ice crystals everywhere.

The temperature was at least minus 28 degrees.

It wasn't exceptionally cold, but it significantly hindered Daeron's performance.

"Fortunately, I've mined enough Iron Ore to craft a Basic Sprinkler."

After eating the egg, Daeron's condition recovered, and he continued searching for the entrance to the next floor.

There's an elevator on Floor 50.

Buzz—

Suddenly, the temperature dropped rapidly, as if dark clouds were looming, making the mine dark and even the air began to solidify.

Daeron was startled and thought to himself, "Bad luck, bad luck."

There's a chance for monster floors to appear in the mines, and normal floors also have a chance to trigger a 'Fog' event.

Under the shroud of Fog, flying monsters appear in large numbers.

He couldn't delay; he had to hurry and strike the nearby stones to find the entrance to the next floor.

Flap flap flap!

With a messy sound of flapping wings, three Black Bats flew out from the eerie Fog.

He couldn't keep searching; he had to ensure his safety first.

Bats are easy to handle!

Daeron waited for the bats to approach, swung his neptune greatsword, and hacked them into pieces in just a few strokes.

Splat!

Three bats died, dropping three pairs of Bat Wings.

Killing monsters drops materials.

The Bat Wings obtained from killing bats can be used to craft Lightning Rods and Monster Musk, and can also be used for bundles and trading items.

He collected them and continued searching for the entrance to the next floor.

The Basic Pickaxe was old and heavy; clanging against the stones of the Frozen levels, it took two or three hits to break one.

Flap flap flap!

Just as he had smashed two stones, another four or five Black Bats flew in, surrounding him from all sides.

"I'm really fed up."

The monsters in the Fog came too quickly.

Daeron had nowhere to hide, so he backed against a rock wall to prepare for a counterattack.

"Wooo wooo wooo~~"

As the bats charged, an eerie wail echoed through the Fog, sending shivers down his spine.

Daeron turned his head sharply.

He saw a specter floating near the exit ladder, its body illusory, covered in grayish-white rags, and emitting a rotting stench.

"A Ghost!"

Daeron was on high alert.

Among the many monsters in stardew valley, the most troublesome ones are Ghosts, mummies, and Serpents.

Ghosts have very high HP and won't die even after several hits.

Every time they are hit, they knock back a distance, making it impossible to follow up with an attack.

And once hit by a Ghost, not only do you take damage and lose health, but the Ghost will also teleport into the distance to wait for another chance to strike.

"Then let's see what you've got."

Daeron slowed his breathing, channeling the abundant Life Force within him to enhance his physical functions.

Reality isn't a game; you can't just eat some food to heal an injury.

A Ghost is a genuine specter; who knows if it deals physical or magic damage.

If he got hit once, Maester Harvy's wound medicine might not be effective.

"Caw! Caw!"

The four or five bats flew in first, their crimson eyes wide and fangs bared as they attacked.

Daeron fought one against five, swinging the neptune greatsword like a windmill, making his defense within a three-meter radius impenetrable.

The bat monsters had low intelligence; before they could dodge, they were hacked into materials.

"A two-handed greatsword really is handy!"

Daeron panted slightly; the continuous mining and combat were causing his stamina to drop rapidly.

Speaking of which, he lacked a weapon.

As a swordsman who wields a sword with both hands, he could only use the neptune greatsword for now.

Ordinary mundane weapons were fragile against the mine monsters, their edges chipping after just a few strikes.

"Fighting away from home without a full set of weapons, I'm really just looking for trouble."

Daeron adjusted his breathing, keeping a close eye on the slowly approaching Ghost.

"Wooo wooo wooo~~"

The Ghost's speed was very slow; as it floated up and down in front of the human, it was forced back by a single strike from the azure greatsword.

It even let out a resentful wail.

"Even if you beg me, I won't let you go."

Daeron was cold and ruthless.

Using the terrain to his advantage, he forced the approaching Ghost back time and again, finally hacking it into a cloud of mist on the fourth strike to the grayish-white rags.

"Wooo wooo!!"

The Ghost let out one final wail as its illusory body vanished, dropping a golden item that radiated warm sunlight.

Daeron stepped forward and picked it up.

sun essence: The glowing surface feels warm to the touch.

"It's this thing."

Daeron examined it closely.

It felt warm and hot in his hand, emitting a brilliant light.

The texture of the smooth surface wasn't as hard as he'd imagined, but rather had a bouncy, jiggly sensation; it was likely some kind of energy condensation.

After touching it for a while, he felt the chill in his body being dispelled, the areas touched by the sunlight feeling warm and cozy, his body's cells sending out signals of joy.

It was like... like... returning to a mother's embrace, the firelight of a fireplace at night, or sunbathing on a summer beach... Daeron felt that holding the sun essence was even more comfortable than enjoying the warmth of a fire.
