Alex remained silent.
He could tell that his grandparents were desperately trying to conceal something. Whatever secret they carried was so important that they were willing to die rather than reveal it. Their expressions, trembling hands, and fearful eyes were enough to confirm his suspicion.
Instead of forcing the issue, Alex asked another question.
"Do you have any grandchildren?"
The moment those words left his mouth, both of them reacted as if they had seen a ghost.
Their faces instantly turned deathly pale. The old woman's breathing became hurried while the old man's body stiffened. Panic spread across their faces without any attempt to hide it.
"N... no. We don't have any grandchildren. Please leave."
The old woman spoke with a trembling voice, trying to drive him away.
Alex calmly looked into their eyes.
"Was your grandson's name Alex? Was he sent to the Harmony Orphanage when he was still a baby?"
Each question struck them like a bolt of lightning.
