Chapter 41 - The Covenant City

The Gateway stood open.

A bridge of silver light stretched across the impossible void.

Beyond it waited another world.

Another sky.

Another destiny.

And now, for the first time, Madison had a choice.

Turn back.

Or step forward.

---

The Core Chamber trembled.

Ancient machinery groaned.

Warning lights flashed throughout Vault Zero.

Yet Madison barely noticed.

Her eyes remained fixed on the silver city beyond the portal.

The city that had appeared in visions.

The city that somehow knew her name.

The city waiting for the heir of the First Walker.

---

"The Covenant requests your presence."

The words echoed in her mind.

Again.

And again.

And again.

---

Noah nervously pointed toward the portal.

"So..."

He swallowed.

"Nobody else thinks walking into another dimension is a terrible idea?"

---

"It is."

Charles answered immediately.

---

"A horrible idea."

Aethel agreed.

---

"The worst."

Ethan nodded.

---

"Absolutely awful."

---

Madison blinked.

---

"Then why is everyone looking at me like I should do it?"

---

Noah pointed toward the giant cosmic portal.

---

"Because it literally called your name."

---

Fair point.

Very fair point.

---

Then suddenly Ethan stepped forward.

---

"If she goes..."

His voice remained calm.

Certain.

---

"I'm going too."

---

Silence.

---

Madison turned toward him.

---

"Ethan."

---

"No."

The answer came immediately.

---

Firm.

Unmovable.

---

"I'm not letting you face this alone."

---

For a moment neither looked away.

The world seemed to disappear.

The alarms.

The Gateway.

The Titans.

Everything.

---

Just them.

---

Then Noah groaned dramatically.

---

"Please kiss after we save reality."

---

The moment shattered instantly.

---

Madison laughed.

A real laugh.

For the first time in what felt like forever.

---

Even Ethan smiled.

---

Then Aethel spoke.

---

"You may both enter."

---

The room fell silent.

---

"What?"

---

Aethel looked toward the Gateway.

---

"The Covenant anticipated companions."

---

Companions.

The word felt strangely important.

---

Like history repeating itself.

---

Then another memory appeared on the monitors.

Ancient records.

Ancient paintings.

---

Aldric Walker.

The First Traveler.

---

And beside him stood another figure.

A companion.

A friend.

A warrior.

---

Someone who had crossed worlds with him.

---

Madison stared.

---

The resemblance to Ethan was uncanny.

---

Not identical.

But close enough to be disturbing.

---

Ethan noticed too.

---

"No."

---

Aethel nodded slowly.

---

"Yes."

---

Nobody liked mysterious answers anymore.

Not after everything.

---

Yet somehow they kept getting them.

---

Then the Gateway pulsed.

---

A warm silver light flooded the chamber.

---

And for the first time...

A voice emerged from the portal itself.

---

Not the ancient system.

Not the facility.

Not Aethel.

---

Someone else.

---

A woman.

---

Her voice sounded regal.

Powerful.

Ancient.

---

Yet strangely kind.

---

"Heir."

---

The entire room froze.

---

The voice continued.

---

"The Covenant welcomes you."

---

Madison's heartbeat quickened.

---

"Who are you?"

---

Several seconds passed.

---

Then came the answer.

---

"I am Queen Elyria."

---

A holographic image formed above the Gateway.

---

A woman dressed in silver armor.

Long white hair.

Golden eyes.

A crown made from glowing crystal.

---

She looked impossibly beautiful.

---

Yet there was sadness in her eyes.

Deep sadness.

---

The sadness of someone carrying a burden for a very long time.

---

"The city still stands."

Queen Elyria said softly.

---

"But not for much longer."

---

The image shifted.

---

Showing the silver city.

---

Showing enormous defensive walls.

---

Showing thousands of soldiers.

---

Showing flying vessels.

---

Showing preparations for war.

---

A real war.

---

Then the image zoomed outward.

---

Far beyond the city.

---

To the horizon.

---

And everyone froze.

---

Because Valthor wasn't alone.

---

Hundreds of gigantic shadows moved behind him.

---

Titans.

---

Thousands of times larger than humans.

---

An army.

---

Waiting.

---

Preparing.

---

The Queen's voice became grave.

---

"The Final Siege approaches."

---

Silence.

---

Absolute silence.

---

Because suddenly the scale of everything changed.

---

This wasn't about a monster.

---

Or a mystery.

---

Or even two worlds.

---

It was about survival.

---

Entire civilizations balanced on the edge of extinction.

---

Then Queen Elyria looked directly at Madison.

---

"The Covenant has waited eight centuries."

---

Her golden eyes seemed to shine.

---

"Please."

---

The single word carried more emotion than any speech.

---

More hope.

More desperation.

More faith.

---

"Come home."

---

The silver bridge brightened.

The Gateway widened.

And for the first time...

Madison took a step toward another world.

To be continued...
