Saving everyone was an ideal concept, but it was ultimately impossible. Khal's job was to deal with monsters and raid dungeons. Logically speaking, doing that was enough to say he was already saving a lot of people from potential danger.
However, humans were like that. People tend to glorify the powerful, and as a result of that, they also hope for too much from them.

It was very contradictory and also tedious.
