Ayen never experienced that two of the espers were unconscious. Last time, when Devion had a relapse, Khal was with him. He was already anxious when that happened, and now two of them were too exhausted and directly fainted.
He glanced at Devion and held his hand. Ayen gritted his teeth when he felt a jolt spreading across his skin. Devion's body put up an instinctive attack, but it was only for a moment.
The power withdrew, and Ayen needed a minute for the numb sensation to fade. He let out a breath to calm himself.
He averted his eyes from Devion and shifted to Khal.
He had never seen Khal this vulnerable before. There were still traces of blood around his nose. Ayen wiped it with his sleeve and then held his hand.
Ayen's expression twisted, and he closed his eyes, pain and cold spreading through his body. He heaved a sigh once the sensation faded. The cold also retreated.
When he opened his eyes, Ayen was relieved that his hand was not afflicted by frostbite.
