After finishing the last of the roasted meat, we pick up our pace, weaving through the jagged stone paths. I keep glancing down at my wrist, adjusting my sleeve to get a better look at the bracelet.
"Oi, Rhaegor, Elena didn't 'miss' me back," I say, my voice tinged with a bit of genuine worry. "I sent her a ping a while ago now..."
Rhaegor doesn't even look back, his eyes fixed on the path ahead. "She's probably being put through the wringer by Kaelen right now, especially since he's so restless. She wouldn't have a hand free to tap a bracelet."
"Yeah, still…" I bite my lip, glancing back toward the estate. "I hope everything is alright there. Elena usually sends me so many pings that my hand would have gone numb by now."
"Well, forget about them for a second," Rhaegor says, suddenly coming to a dead halt. He stands tall, his nostrils flaring as he stares at the distant horizon. "I don't think things are looking too good here, either."
