Arcs of electricity crackled through the air, seeking to strike Froakie.
"Litten, use Ember!"
Feng Che spoke calmly to the Litten that had been lazily napping on the floor. Hearing its trainer's voice, Litten snapped its eyes open and unleashed a pillar of fire that swallowed the Electabuzz's electric discharge instantly. Sparks scattered across the battlefield, only to be snuffed out by a quick Water Shuriken from Froakie.
"Litten, this is the opponent I found for you. Let's see if you can take it down," Feng Che said, pointing at the Electabuzz.
The Electabuzz had a black lightning bolt symbol on its chest and striped skin like a tiger. Two conductor-like horns on its head hummed as they stored massive amounts of power. With a base stat total of 490, Electabuzz was essentially the "ceiling" for non-legendary Electric-types. This one stood with its left hand raised high, clutching several arcs of visible lightning like a descending God of Thunder.
This Electabuzz has been exceptionally well-raised. To maintain such a high charge, the old couple must have invested a lot of effort, Feng Che noted.
Both his Litten and Froakie had long since passed their evolution levels, but neither showed signs of changing form. This was because Feng Che was pushing their base power to the absolute limit first.
Electabuzz unleashed a massive shock toward the frozen Rhydon. The current vibrated through the ice, causing it to shatter. Freed from the frost, Rhydon shot a wary glance at Electabuzz before retreating to its corner—it had had enough for one day.
It's a good thing this is a professional-grade battlefield, Feng Che thought. Between Electabuzz's wild currents and Litten's flames, a normal building would have burnt down in seconds.
Litten's talent was monstrous, capable of producing flames reaching 6,000 degrees. "Litten, use Fire Spin for defense!"
A roaring vortex of fire erupted around the kitten, blocking the incoming lightning strikes.
[Electabuzz: I underestimated this little cat. Its flames are on par with my master's Charizard!]
The Electabuzz intensified its output. The air vibrated with a high-pitched screech as the golden lightning grew thick and jagged. The stray current caused other Pokémon in the room to scatter, howling as they were zapped.
"Froakie, watch closely," Feng Che advised. "If you can cover yourself in flowing water and control its rotation, you can turn that into a perfect defense."
Froakie tilted its head, deep in thought, then suddenly manifested a sphere of water around itself. [Froakie: Like this? Aqua Ring?] It tried to rotate the water, but ended up spinning itself like it was inside a washing machine. Feng Che watched his dizzy frog with a touch of amusement.
"Litten, Fire Lash!"
Electabuzz clenched its fists, golden lightning swirling into a Thunder Punch. But it was about to learn that Litten's speed was on a different level.
Litten let out a roar that sounded less like a kitten and more like a jungle tiger. The Intimidate ability kicked in, causing the surrounding Pokémon to shiver. Flaming claws manifested on its paws. Litten kicked off the ground, turning into a red blur of light. The floor tiles beneath its feet carbonized instantly.
[Electabuzz: Too fast! I can't even see its silhouette!]
Electabuzz felt a sudden heat at its throat. Litten's glowing white fire-claws were resting right against its windpipe. The fur on Electabuzz's neck singed away in an instant.
Electabuzz gulped, slowly raising its hands in a universal sign of surrender. [Electabuzz: I give up! Whew, almost turned into a roasted tiger. Who is this trainer?]
Litten's claws dissipated into harmless sparks. It turned away with an arrogant huff and hopped into Feng Che's arms.
Just then, the "Pink Demon" began to move.
The Chansey waddled forward, its egg-shaped body swaying. This species was the ultimate assistant for alchemists and doctors, but it was strictly regulated by the League and the Joy Clan. Chansey began busy-bodying around the room, expertly treating the Pokémon Feng Che had bruised.
The heavy iron door creaked open.
"You are a truly remarkable trainer," the old woman said, clapping her hands. "To settle such a rowdy group so quickly... please, come with me for your reward."
She led him to a corner of the building filled with baskets of Chansey's Eggs. These weren't Pokémon eggs, but the highly nutritious, unfertilized eggs produced in a Chansey's pouch—one of the most valuable medicinal resources in the world.
"These were laid by my partner from my younger days," the old woman explained. "Take as many as you like as payment for the sparring."
She then bowed her head. "I must apologize. I don't actually have a direct channel to buy a Miltank for you. I lied to get you to help us."
Feng Che looked at the pristine eggs. While he didn't get the cow, these eggs were a strategic resource he needed anyway. He handed her a credit card with a million Dollars. "I'll buy these. And I'd like to set up a regular delivery to Celadon City in Kanto."
"Since you're so generous, I'll give you a real tip," she whispered. "The Miltank in Goldenrod are all controlled by the big farms. But many small farms have gone bankrupt recently. They've been forced to release their Miltank into the nearby forests. Those cows are battle-hardened and don't trust humans, but their milk is of much higher quality than the farm-raised ones. If you're as strong as you look, you should try your luck there."
Battle-hardened Miltank? The quality would be insane, Feng Che thought with a smirk.
With the information in hand, Feng Che set off to find his next target: Kris, the "Capture Specialist." To win her over, he just needed to help the one thing she cared about—the orphanage.
When he arrived at the coordinates for the orphanage, he found it under siege by a swarm of Spinarak. The green, spider-like Pokémon were flooding the grounds with thick webbing.
"Everyone, stay calm! Get inside!" a girl in an apron shouted.
A giant Ariados stared her down with malicious eyes. It unhinged its jaw and unleashed a barrage of purple Poison Stings toward the girl and the group of huddled children.
