[Recruiting Trainers: Development of an Uninhabited Desert Island]
The Hoenn League has discovered a massive, uncharted desert island in a remote sea. Initial reports indicate a staggering density of Flying-type Pokémon. These avian creatures are exceptionally powerful, causing significant interference with the League's early drone surveys.
Volunteers are now being recruited to assist in the exploration and development of this island. As an incentive, any Pokémon captured on the island by the participants may be kept as personal property.
"I remember now... this isn't just an island. It's the Island of Flight created by Mew!"
Feng Che's eyes lit up. Legend had it that when Mew was shaping the world, it created eighteen hidden islands, each serving as a cradle for one of the eighteen elemental types. These islands were tucked away in the most inaccessible corners of the globe.
The Island of Flight was the birthplace of avian power. In the original games, the Hoenn League discovered it by accident, and while the initial loss of life among trainers was high due to the ferocity of the wild Pokémon, the survivors emerged as world-class Flying-type specialists, bolstered by the island's unique resources.
"The discovery of the Island of Flight sparked a global 'island rush,' eventually leading to the discovery of the Insect and Rock islands," Feng Che mused. "My Gym opens in two months. I need a powerhouse roster of Flying-types to anchor it. This is the perfect opportunity."
Johto Region: A Hidden Underground Palace
In a cavernous hall, a gargantuan statue of a black Ho-Oh loomed over a congregation of hooded figures. Carved from pure obsidian, the statue shimmered with an eerie, greasy light.
A monk in the black robes of a High Priest knelt before the effigy, his fingers blurring as he rotated a string of prayer beads. His face bore a striking, seven-point resemblance to High Priest Shamyo, but with a crucial difference: a mark of black flame etched into his brow.
This was High Priest Shaka, leader of the Jingten Cult.
"Curse them! I waited nineteen years for the stars to align to release the Sky God," Shaka hissed, his voice echoing off the stone walls. "Not only did the seal remain unbroken, but they managed to reinforce it! The Sky God has been forced back into a deep slumber. I can no longer hear the divine whispers."
Shaka's eyes, cold as a viper's, landed on a middle-aged man with a thick beard. "Ando Kinji, report. How was Kaya's cover blown?"
"High Priest Shaka... our investigation shows that Shamyo set a meticulous trap," Ando stammered, sweating under the lethal gaze. "He lured Kaya into revealing himself and then eliminated him in one move."
"Does Shamyo have another Rainbow Wing?" Shaka whispered to himself. "He wouldn't have risked the first one so recklessly otherwise. Shamyo... I underestimated you."
"There's more," Ando continued. "A trainer with the Power of Viridian appeared at the Bell Tower. He is the newly appointed Gym Leader of Viridian City in Kanto."
"Viridian power? Does he have a connection to the Rainbow Wing's restoration? Ho-Oh always visits that forest when choosing a Hero..." Shaka's face twisted into a mask of cruelty. "He cannot be allowed to interfere with the Sky God's return. Send the Three Ninjas. Kill him immediately."
"Death to those who block the Sky God's descent!"
Fortree City, Hoenn
Feng Che and Mewtwo arrived in the "City in the Trees," the gathering point for the expedition. Winona (娜琪), the Fortree Gym Leader, was the primary organizer.
Inside the Fortree Gym, Winona was elegantly sipping tea. Across from her sat a silver-blue haired youth—Steven Stone (大吾), the heir to Devon Corp and future Hoenn Champion. Beside him was a woman in tribal priestess attire, a heavy obsidian anklet around her leg. This was Zinnia (汐), the Dragon Priestess of the Draconids.
"Welcome, Steven, and High Priestess Zinnia," Winona greeted them. "Here is the preliminary intelligence. The island is rich in mineral deposits but guarded by Tier-1 avian predators."
"The Pokémon there are at least High-Elite rank. Anyone without Gym-level strength is effectively a liability," Winona warned. "My goal is the ruins in the central highlands. They are said to house the Sky God Crystal (Airstone). Its market value exceeds 1 billion Credits, but more importantly, it's the key my Altaria needs to break through the Pseudo-Champion bottleneck to reach the Champion Tier. I want the crystal; you two can have the rest of the ruins' treasures."
"Agreed," Steven nodded. "If you provide the entry method, you get first pick of the crystals. If there are none, you get first pick of one other treasure, and the rest we split by contribution."
"Be careful," Winona added. "My scouts report that General Jecal of the Poacher Syndicate is interested. Team Magma and Team Aqua are also sending units. They'll help distract the wild Pokémon, but they might try to snatch the prize at the last second."
The Gym Plaza
Winona stepped onto a balcony overlooking a massive crowd of trainers.
"Thank you all for volunteering," she announced into a microphone. "But let me be clear: the Island of Flight is a death trap for the unprepared. Drone footage shows High-Elite Pokémon on the coasts; the interior is far more dangerous. If you do not have at least one Gym-Leader level Pokémon, you are mere cannon fodder. Our staff will now use scanners to verify your team's strength. If you don't meet the requirement, you stay behind."
Feng Che stood in the crowd, his eyes fixed on the horizon.
