King Kai's entire body went rigid. A cold, slippery mass coiled tightly around his neck.
"Where do you think you're going, Kai? Our battle hasn't even concluded yet."
Gengar's long tongue swiped across the back of Kai's neck. With a visceral slurp, an intense numbing sensation surged through the general's spine, throwing him into an immediate state of paralysis.
"Damn it... you're still alive!"
Kai's eyes injected with blood as he glared back at Feng Che. The dense sulfur smoke had finally dispersed, revealing static currents still humming in the air. Feng Che stood entirely unscathed, a shimmering violet sphere of psychic energy effortlessly blocking the millions of volts from the Bolt Beak.
"It seems I severely underestimated you. You are a high-level Psychic."
"Magnificent. You have officially incensed me."
Trembling violently under the forced paralysis, Kai fumbled inside his spatial ring and pulled out a specialized neutralizing tonic. His movements were agonisingly slow, punctuated by the agonizing jolts of static residual current racking his muscles. Shaking uncontrollably, he managed to twist open the cap and down the fluid.
It took several agonizing moments for the edge of the paralysis to recede, restoring a fragment of his motor control.
"Gengar, Shadow Ball."
Gengar lazily snapped its fingers. In an instant, the ceiling of the ruined laboratory was carpeted with hundreds of swirling, compressed spheres of dark energy.
The Emerald Juggernaut
Meanwhile, halfway up the mountain ridges, Steven Stone was heavily engaged with the oncoming vanguard of the Druddigon horde. A massive, emerald-skinned Druddigon stood atop a boulder, orchestrating the defensive formations like a seasoned commander.
Facing the wall of dragons was Steven's ace, Metagross—a colossal, robotic steel titan formed from the fusion of two Metang. Its primary body was a brilliant turquoise-blue, its disc-like torso anchored by four heavy, metallic legs modeled after Beldum. Its compound eyes glowed a fierce red beneath a striking, silver "X" crest that dominated its face. A hidden maw lined with serrated metal teeth sat beneath its chassis.
"Metagross, Mega Evolve!"
Steven raised his wrist, his forearm guard flashing as the Key Stone embedded within resonated with his partner.
A blinding cascade of seven-colored light enveloped the titan. When the evolutionary matrix stabilized, Mega Metagross hovered above the rocks, its eight mechanical limbs extended forward like a lethal array of metallic spears. In this advanced configuration, a Metagross, a Metang, and two Beldum had integrated their structural frameworks. Its four primary legs transformed into heavy, forward-facing armored arms, supplemented by four secondary limbs bracing its rear. The silver facial crest had shifted to a gleaming gold, and a heavy spikes jutted from its lower jaw line.
"That Druddigon must be King Kai's primary partner. Its defensive density is incredible," Steven noted, his brow furrowed.
The emerald Druddigon was the undisputed Alpha of the mountain horde. If it fell, the remaining army would scatter into a leaderless panic. However, the beast was exceptionally cunning, constantly positioning waves of lower-level Druddigon to serve as meat-shields while it directed the battle from absolute safety.
More dragons swarmed the pass, answer the Alpha's call, only to be launched into the stratosphere by the sheer kinetic weight of Mega Metagross's forward thrusts. Heavy hides slammed into the cliff faces, leaving the vanguard severely fractured.
Steven glanced up toward the castle peak, noticing a violent surge of golden electricity illuminating the clouds, followed by a sudden gathering of dense, unnatural storm clouds.
A barrage of blinding white lightning cascaded from the apex, striking several Druddigon squarely across their backs. The smell of scorched meat drifted down the pass as several dragons were instantly reduced to blackened husks.
"It seems someone has already breached the inner sanctum. Is it Norman or Feng Che? I can't let them outshine me."
"Strike, Metagross!"
Mega Metagross synchronized its four primary arms, executing a flawless, continuous Meteor Mash that cleared the remaining defensive line in a single, devastating sweep.
The Confusion Grid
On the opposite ridge of the mountain, Norman was dealing with a different obstacle: a massive colony of Noivern patrolling the skies, their continuous acoustic pulses scanning every inch of the canopy.
The Noivern were massive, bat-like draconic predators, boasting a pair of gargantuan speaker-like ears and a thick collar of plush white fur wrapping around their necks. Their heavy leathery wings were a deep violet on the exterior and pitch-black inside, flanked by a cyan wing membrane and tipped with two blood-red claws. When their jaws parted, two elongated, serrated fangs glinted in the dim light.
By vibrating their massive ears, the Noivern could project ultrasonic waves capable of pulverizing solid boulders. They used this acoustic mapping to track targets in complete darkness, making them the ultimate aerial sentries.
"A colony of this size is highly problematic for a conventional assault," Norman muttered, calculating his options. "Go, Spinda."
He released the plush, spot-patterned normal-type.
"Spinda, Teeter Dance, then follow up with Dizzy Punch!"
The Noivern detected the erratic movements of the Spinda and immediately directed a synchronized barrage of high-frequency acoustic waves toward its position. The sonic lances rained down like artillery, shattering a massive stone pillar into flying shrapnel.
The entire ridge was engulfed in a rain of flying stone, yet Spinda moved with a bizarre, fluid choreography, slipping through the sonic gaps and flying debris unscathed. Closing the distance to the nearest sentry, it swung a soft, clumsy paw squarely into the Noivern's face.
The Noivern's eyes rolled as it entered a severe state of confusion. Shaking its head wildly, it turned on its own colony, unleashing a maximum-output Boomburst directly into the flock.
The concussive shockwave slammed a neighboring Noivern into the cliff side, while dozens more were caught in the crossfire. Insulted and disoriented, the surrounding bats snapped, retaliating against their confused pack-mate in a chaotic, bloody civil war.
As Spinda continued its Teeter Dance, the hysteria spread exponentially through the ranks. Feral instincts overrode their conditioning, and the colony began tearing itself apart in the sky.
With its objective accomplished, Spinda bounced back to Norman's side, nimbly scaling his trouser leg to settle comfortably on his shoulder.
"Exceptional work, Spinda. You executed the sequence perfectly," Norman said, scratching its head before returning it to its ball.
His confusion-lock strategy was engineered specifically for dense, multi-target battlefields. Taking advantage of the self-inflicted aerial chaos, Norman summoned his Swellow and soared cleanly toward the mountain summit.
Mirror Force
High above the Central Citadel, King Kai launched a coordinated desperate counter-offensive, unleashing his Dracozolt alongside a newly deployed Noivern. This beast had recently crossed into the Champion threshold, capable of compressing acoustic waves to a lethal degree.
Under the continuous impact of the Noivern's high-frequency sonic screeches, Gengar's dense network of hovering Shadow Balls began detonating prematurely, filling the upper courtyard with billowing clouds of dark smoke.
However, Gengar merely chuckled, immediately opening a direct rift into the Spirit World, slipping through the dimensions via Shadow Travel.
"Dracozolt, maximum Bolt Beak!"
"Noivern, Boomburst!"
Dracozolt beat its vestigial wings, manifesting a sky full of jagged, crackling lightning that turned the atmosphere into a sea of static fire. Simultaneously, Noivern unleashed a visible ripple of concussive sound waves that warped the air.
Gengar's mocking laughter echoed from everywhere at once as it manifested two giant rifts into the Spirit World right in front of the incoming attacks. The millions of volts and the concussive sound waves vanished entirely into the dark voids.
With a sweeping gesture of its arms, Gengar opened two exit rifts directly behind the opposing Pokémon.
The Bolt Beak roared out of the void, charting a direct course for Noivern, while the Boomburst erupted behind Dracozolt. The Champion Noivern beat its wings furiously, attempting to break away from the tracking current, but the lightning locked onto its biological signature with mechanical inevitability.
The current wrapped around Noivern's frame. With a final, choked shriek, the dragon was instantly charred to a crisp, its lifeless form tumbling out of the smoke and crashing heavily into the crater below.
