Miguel, who remained unnervingly calm and quiet amidst Navarro's lingering questions, finally spoke. His voice was a low anchor in the room.
"Are Diaz and Hector back yet?" Miguel asked, stealing a quick, sharp glance at Navarro.
Navarro caught the signal for a change of topic instantly; he didn't press, he just answered almost immediately, his tone shifting to match Miguel's frequency. "Not yet. Benedicta still has to lure the Kenyan generals.... And...." He paused, his expression tightening.
He gave Miguel a very knowing eye, a look that screamed he was about to say something sensitive, something that could bite.
"And what?" Miguel completed, his voice lacing with a sudden, sharp impatience.
"And Robinson won't follow them back, that's what is keeping them longer." Navarro's lips pressed into a thin, knowing line, the silence stretching for a beat before he continued.
"Miguel, I think it's high time you let the boy go. After all, you found a new toy!"
