Chapter 138: Kill Danzō — And I'm Yours!
Hearing the word "revenge," Mikoto's delicate body trembled lightly.
She looked up at Oborotsuki in shock, a faint spark returning to her eyes:
"You… you're going to avenge the Uchiha clan?"
But the shock quickly turned into deep worry.
The first person Mikoto thought of as the culprit was Itachi—the one who had killed her husband.
Her and Fugaku's most cherished son… the one who had personally slain his own father…
Could the revenge Oborotsuki spoke of mean going after Itachi?
"I already investigated everything this afternoon."
Oborotsuki saw through her concern at a glance and explained calmly.
His words immediately drew Mikoto's full attention. Her face showed serious curiosity as she listened intently.
"The one who ordered the total extermination of the Uchiha clan—leaving no one alive—was not Konoha's Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi. It was someone else."
"Hiruzen's original intention was only to subdue the Uchiha clan and resolve the crisis as peacefully as possible."
"In other words, the person truly responsible for the annihilation of the Uchiha clan is someone different."
"When I say I'll take you for revenge, I mean going after that man."
Oborotsuki's explanation finally eased some of the tension in Mikoto's heart.
Then, a fierce light of hatred quickly ignited in her eyes.
She slowly stood up, swaying weakly.
Her gaze unconsciously fell on the steaming bowl of ramen on the table. She swallowed hard.
"Eat first. I'll explain slowly."
Oborotsuki reminded her.
This time, Mikoto didn't refuse. She sat back down and began to eat.
She really was starving.
The escape, followed by everything that had happened afterward, had completely drained her physically.
And she still had to feed little Sasuke.
By now she was severely exhausted.
If she didn't eat, she might collapse before tomorrow.
Watching Mikoto finally eat, Oborotsuki slowly began to explain.
"The man who ordered the complete eradication of the Uchiha clan—leaving no survivors—was Konoha's number-two figure, Hokage advisor, and leader of Root."
"You've probably already guessed who he is."
"That's right—the one I'm talking about is Shimura Danzō."
Hearing that name, Mikoto's hand paused mid-bite. A flash of intense hatred passed through her eyes.
"Danzō…"
She whispered the name.
"You alone… how can you possibly go up against them?"
"Root has the backing of all of Konoha."
Mikoto said, lowering her head again to continue eating.
Under normal circumstances, she would never have agreed—never wanted to drag Oborotsuki into this.
But now, after Itachi had killed Fugaku, her entire mentality had undergone a massive shift.
Deep in her heart burned a fierce hatred.
A burning desire for revenge.
Yet she was just one woman—weak and powerless. She still had to care for little Sasuke. How could she possibly take revenge?
Only by relying on the man before her might it be possible.
"There is some risk, of course."
"But if it's for you… that risk is worth taking."
Oborotsuki crossed his arms and looked down at Mikoto with a meaningful smile.
Hearing this, Mikoto fell silent.
This man had expressed his interest in her more than once—not for the first time.
Previously, Mikoto would never have considered it.
But now—for the sake of revenge—she felt it might be acceptable.
Besides, whether in looks, physique, strength, or any other aspect, this man was one in a million.
Mikoto quietly finished the entire bowl of ramen—even drinking every last drop of the rich broth.
"You're willing to represent the Uchiha clan, to deliver justice and make them pay. I'm very grateful."
"But Oborotsuki… you also understand my current situation."
"There isn't much I can offer you…"
Mikoto said, lowering her head, her mood a little uneasy.
"What I want isn't much."
Oborotsuki grinned wickedly and stepped closer.
Mikoto's body trembled slightly—but this time she didn't pull away.
"Can you… first let me see your sincerity and strength?"
Though she no longer dodged or resisted like before, Mikoto still gathered her courage to state her condition.
"How do you want me to prove my strength and sincerity?"
Oborotsuki's blood pressure rose, his heart racing—he was already on the edge.
Holding back at a moment like this was agonizing, but for the sake of the system's rewards and completing his sacred mission, he endured.
Seeing Oborotsuki's burning gaze, Mikoto's cheeks flushed. She instinctively looked away.
After hesitating for a moment, she answered shyly:
"Kill Danzō. Avenge the Uchiha clan… and I'll be yours to do with as you please…"
"Deal!"
"But right now… I want a deposit!"
Oborotsuki glanced at little Sasuke—who had eaten his fill and was now sleeping soundly—then decisively undid his belt.
…
Hokage's office.
Kakashi—leader of the team sent to intercept the fleeing Uchiha non-combatants, only to be ambushed by Root—had returned.
He reported everything that had happened in full detail to Hiruzen Sarutobi.
After listening to Kakashi's report, Hiruzen's face became extremely ugly.
This wasn't the first time he'd heard this news.
According to the ninja who had been at Naka Shrine, it was also Danzō who had given the order to annihilate the Uchiha clan without mercy.
"Danzō has gone too far!"
"This time he blatantly overstepped his authority and ignored the Hokage's orders, Hiruzen—you can't indulge him any longer!"
Mitokado Homura looked at the grim-faced, silent Hiruzen—who was smoking—and spoke angrily.
The extermination of the Uchiha clan was merely the elimination of a major threat to them.
But in this operation, Root had stayed safe while the other ninja suffered heavy losses.
Civilian ninja casualties were one thing—
But the elite members of Konoha's great clans had also been killed or injured in large numbers.
These were the foundation of the village.
If they collapsed, the consequences would be unthinkable!
"What Homura said is correct, Hiruzen. I also believe Danzō went too far this time. If you continue indulging him like before, he'll only become more reckless in the future."
Koharu Utatane added her thoughts.
Hiruzen took a drag from his pipe and looked at the two of them:
"I've already sent someone to summon Danzō."
"This time, I won't let it go easily. You don't need to remind me."
With that, Hiruzen stood up, hands behind his back, and walked to the window. He gazed out at the pouring rain and stormy night, pipe still in his mouth.
He didn't notice that, atop the cliff of the Hokage Rock opposite the office, another figure now stood.
The man wore a swirling mask and a black red-cloud cloak.
"Even though it happened earlier than I expected… the plan to use the Uchiha to weaken Konoha has been a great success…"
