It was a natural phenomenon.
Gods were supreme beings worshiped by the lower beings. Mortals prayed to gods in times of need while venerating them on occasions, the same way demons of the lower realms always prayed to demon gods for favour. And each land had a particular god they venerated the most for reasons best known to them.
And while Ren stared at the statue before him, he could tell that the Nine-tailed Demon Fox God was the god the land of JinCheng had venerated in the days of their prime.
It was clear that the temple and statue were old. So they didn't make use of this place anymore, which meant that they no longer prayed to this god.
"How's that possible...?" Ren thought to himself as he stared at the statue. "When... why... how..." He couldn't understand how any of this was a thing.
"You shouldn't be here...." Zuran said. "Go away..."
