Chapter 120: Flying Dragon Striking the Enemy Thunder Cannon

Clang!

At the critical moment, Tonbo Tobitake spun around, kunai in hand, and parried Kakashi's blade. Sparks flew from the clashing steel.

Wind Style: Great Breakthrough.

Performing a one-handed seal in the brief moment of contact, a massive gale blasted toward Kakashi.

"Impressive. You actually managed to evade my sensory perception," Tonbo laughed as the wind blew his opponent back.

Whoosh!

Kakashi tumbled through the air, quickly stabilizing his stance. He faced Tonbo, breathing heavily.

"Ever since our last fight, I've been researching how to bypass your sensory net. I didn't expect that even now, I still couldn't defeat you."

It was indeed unexpected. As an Anbu Captain, his "perfect" assassination attempt had ended in failure.

"However, let this final move decide the winner," Kakashi said. He began forming seals, and a high-pitched chirping sound erupted from his hand as lightning surged forth. His Sharingan spun slowly, capturing Tonbo's every movement.

"Mhm. Heh, I happened to develop a Lightning Style jutsu out of boredom myself. It hasn't been battle-tested yet, so let's try it out in this fight."

Seeing the lightning, Tonbo grinned and performed a set of hand seals. He placed his left hand over his right, aiming his right palm directly at Kakashi as chakra surged wildly through his body. Static electricity swirled around the jutsu core in his palm, gradually forming into a concentrated mass.

"Raikiri (Lightning Blade)!"

"Flying Dragon Striking the Enemy Thunder Cannon!"

Screech!

Crackle!

The sound of a thousand birds chirping collided with a beam of light fired from Tonbo's palm. In Guy's field of vision, it looked as if Kakashi had used Raikiri to slice right through Tonbo's jutsu.

Zzzzzzt!

Chirp-chirp-chirp!

The Raikiri cut through the beam, lightning radiating in a cone shape. The two forces deadlocked before finally canceling each other out.

Huff... huff...

Both men were fairly exhausted. Looking at each other—both essentially unscathed—they performed the Seal of Reconciliation.

"As expected of my eternal rival! Kakashi actually fought Tonbo to a draw!" Guy approached, giving Kakashi a thumbs-up. "And Tonbo, your jutsu was incredibly flashy!"

Tonbo rolled his eyes, though Guy couldn't see it under the bandages. Of course it was flashy. This move was easily an A-rank Lightning Style jutsu, specifically designed against ninjas who have the ability to absorb ninjutsu.

As the saying goes: with intelligence and time, a ninja is a god.

In the past, the ability to absorb ninjutsu was extremely rare in the shinobi world, so there were few specialized counters. But as long as one has the intel, developing a targeted jutsu is no problem for a talented ninja.

The Flying Dragon Striking the Enemy Thunder Cannon was based on Lightning nature transformation and modern theories of electrical appliances. Using the jutsu as a core, it attracted natural lightning and surrounded it with a massive amount of positrons and electrons to form an attack. The "beam of light" released was an optical illusion caused by the dense concentration of electrons affecting light rays.

The principle was similar to Kashin Koji's summoning of natural flames from Flaming Mountain. Both summoned natural forces to strike the enemy. However, Tonbo had developed this mostly for fun. Unlike a summoning jutsu, the core of this move was still chakra; he wasn't sure what the absorption range of an enemy might be. It was a bit risky, so he'd have to test it properly later.

Kakashi straightened his clothes, feeling a numbing sensation on his skin. He knew that last attack had still affected him. He hadn't realized Tonbo's mastery of Lightning Style had reached such heights.

He's a genius on the level of Minato-sensei, Kakashi thought. Genjutsu, Taijutsu, Body Flicker, Sensory, Ninjutsu, Secret Techniques... it was ridiculous. Who was the one who graduated early again?

"Looks like I'm still the strongest!" Tonbo teased. Whether it was the "Mr. 50/50" or the "Guy-sensei," they were both defeated by him today. Mwahaha! A sense of accomplishment welled up inside him.

"I know how strong you are. I'm not fighting you again," Kakashi said. Though he said that, his mind was already simulating how to defeat a Tonbo of this caliber. This was a ninja's habit—regardless of whether you were allies, they prepared for the possibility of you being an enemy later. The moment you expose intel, they simulate a countermeasure.

Guy: "Let's call it a day. Next time, I'll definitely find a way to beat you, Tonbo."

"In that case, want to train with me again? I've prepared a new look for us," Tonbo laughed.

"..." Guy's face immediately soured. He remembered the "Red Flash" incident—it was his biggest scandal. Being called the "Duo-Colored Duo of Konoha" due to that aesthetic was a disgrace.

"No. I do not agree with your aesthetics. I'll stick with Kakashi." He waved his hand in refusal. Other things could be red, but his clothes absolutely could not.

"Hey, that's too blunt. You should be more tactful," Tonbo complained.

"Hmph." Guy wasn't going to be tactful; the last time he was "tactful," he got hurt. He had learned his lesson.

"Hey, Guy. To be honest, I don't agree with your aesthetics either," Kakashi muttered.

"What? You've decided to train with me? Great! I won't lose this time!" Guy's eyes suddenly lit up as if he had heard the sweetest words in the world.

"...Your selective hearing really hasn't changed," Kakashi sighed.

"Did you see that? Dad is so cool!" Tianyu's eyes glowed as he watched his father's radiant display.

Maki waved her hand. "But I still think the rock-shattering punch was cooler." She preferred the raw power of his fists hitting the ground.

"I feel the same. Dad will teach us, right?" Tianyu rubbed his chin.

"He will. Dad said once we turn four, we'll start pre-school special training just like Big Brother Kiba." Maki fantasized about smashing a boulder and being praised by her father.

"Ah... that's going to be rough." Tianyu felt a headache coming on, remembering how Inuzuka Kiba used to scream in terror.

"The white-haired guy down there isn't actually a cyclops? His eye is so unique!" Maki noted.

Tianyu added, "No matter how unique he is, he's not as unique as the green spandex, bowl-cut guy. But they're both so strong to be able to fight Dad like that!"

"It was just a draw. Dad's not quite there yet. I'll surpass him one day." Maki didn't have the dynamic vision to see the specific moves, only the terrain being destroyed. Since they were all fine afterward, she assumed it was a draw.

Tianyu nodded sagely, agreeing with his sister. Surpass Dad, then make him stay home and use chakra to wash dishes and sweep while we go out to fight.
