Arianne waited for the twins to finish their dinner and bedtime routine before discussing it with Franz. The twins were tucked into bed, asleep. The house felt unusually large without the children's noise.
Since neither she nor Franz knew how to raise children, she asked Aunt Estella to join them. Arianne waited in the sitting room. The forms from the school were already completed beside her.
When the two arrived, she told them what Ms. Ruiz had said.
Franz ran a hand over his face and sighed. "Why didn't I know about these?"
"You can't possibly know everything, Franz," Aunt Estella said.
She touched her cheek, considering. "They're well-behaved at home. They probably didn't want to cause trouble. Or they were afraid they would be sent away."
